Any you guys ever hear of a gulf coast filter? It uses a roll of paper towels for the filter medium. It's supposed to "polish" your fuel and oil. A feller I met told me of these, he uses them on his boat. I looked on ebay, found one, not much description. They do have a web site. Is this abunch of hokey pokey, or do these things really work? Supposed to be well known in the diesel market. Let me know, thanks.
Back in the 60s, we had an old Diamond T that had a toilet paper oil filter. In 1980 we had to replace a few turns of TP around the air cleaner before each start -- St Helens cuased a real shortage of filters in about two days
they are very efficient and low flow filters. the ones that use a paper towel role are about 1/2 gallon an hour. real cool. they used to use a paper towel role, but now they make their own filter. basically the paper towels you buy now are not as dense and not wide enough to work properly anymore. a box of 12 filters from gulf coast was about $110. and you really dont need to change them that often.
no i dont work for them, i have one actually i think it was that guy i got it from, he is VERY slow on shipping and returnign e-mails. the new units sold are about the same thing. the difference is that the paper towels you buy now are different than when this was released originally. the ones from gulf coast are much denser and wider and fit rather well, (well the should ) i tired with some brawney paper towels and it did not work so well, also there is a rubber gasket you need to seal the bottom of the rack the filter screws onto. makes the fluid go to the top and filter down, without it, it just goes right in and out.
cheap they are not but they filter REALLY well, was about 1/2 micron filtration i think and most oil filters are 15-25 microns. so it really gets the crap out of the oil, less crap = less wear = longer engine life. but if your checking out the gulf coast site all the details are there.
I've been to thier website, but you don't always believe what you read these days. That's why I love these forums, I can get input from the common joe, like myself.
even with having to buy the filters its still a cool setup, it took me a while on the phone with them to find out why the paper towels wont work anymore.
the biggest problem with it is finding a place to put it, the thing is not small.
