Hi Guys:
I don't get as much time to post here, but I do try to get onto the forum everyday to look.
I have a '48 F-1 (titled says '49, but the vin decodes to a '48) that has a square heater with 3 doors on it, and 2 control ***** under the dash, below the glove box. The Heater core leaks, and my local radiatior shops all say they can not fix it, and don't know where to get another one. Mostly the shops around here are new comers, with-in the past 10 years (out of New York City to here on theJresey shore) or real old timers who don't want to deal with a long hair like me ( even though I'm nearly 60 years old)
Can anybody give me a sorce to get a replacment core?
I've About got this thing streetable, but the body work is not complete yet. I'd like to put on a few miles before getting too far into the bodywork, in case there are major mechancal problems, therefore the need for heat now. It's a basiclly stock vehicle, new brake system, re-built steering system, re-wired electrical system, new glass, etc. The 223 flathead 6 runs strong, and I'll be towing a small open trailer with one of my Crosleys on it (less than 1800 pounds total).
I've gotten so much great information from you all! Thanks!
Pete
There were a couple of heaters along with a bunch of other parts in the bed of my 48 F1 project when I got it. I was going to look through them, and pick out the best one to put into my truck. If you want, I will look in the attic and see what I have. I may have an extra heater with a good core. Bob(rswhitmore@yahoo.com)
Can you post a pic of the heater you have? It sounds like a Magic Air. It should be a standard core. It won't be cheap tho. Your best bet is to find someone to fix yours. Can you see where it's leaking?
To rswhitmore, yeah buddy, I surly appreciate you doing that, it's cold here on the Jersey shore in the winter with no heat or defrost. The fan works great in mine, so all I would really need is the core.
To ALBUG F-1 I,ve tried 4 shops in the area, they have all said it's too rotten to bother to try. the "Bennies" here only want to do high dolar jobs, and sell NEW parts ! I'll try to get a pic posted the begining of the week. The truck is in my shop at work, and my camera is at home today !
Thanks !!
I tried to repair the heater core on my 52 and had no luck, so many leaks, 19 years sitting with coolant in it I guess. I measured it and went looking on Ebay. Found one with the same measurements looks very close from the pics in the ad. Won the auction today for $9.99 suppossed to be brand new for a 79 to 84 Mercury Cougar. I'll let you know if it fits. Might be the way to go if it works.
Keep looking until you find a shop that has the right parts to make you a new one. It can be done. I ended up spending around $200 to get mine made though so be prepared.
I got the dimentions of the core and did a search on ebay/internet. I found that the core out of a 1970's-ish international scout II had the same dimentions. See my gallery under 'F-7' for more details. It sound like you have a different heater than mine but the method of finding a new core is the same. I only paid $65 for a new core.

Pete, I sent you a Private message but I don't know if you check your PM's. I did find a heater core in the attic among my extra parts that I think will work for your heater. Email me at rswhitmore@yahoo.com and I will send you some pictures. Also, let me know if you haver already resolved your heater problem. Thanks, Bob
