There will be slight differences between this year and other years, but in general this will give you most of what you need.
FWIW, the FX4 is directed more for those looking for a tougher "appearing" F150 vs the Lariat, which is directed more for those who want more luxury. But when it comes to engine, 4 wheel drive system, suspension, etc. It's all basically the same. I think the FX4 has slightly firmer shocks, but factory shocks suck so badly that it just doesn't matter.
Only real difference is the Rancho shocks on the FX4. As stated above, the stock shocks aren't the greatest so, upgrading to some HIGH QUALITY Ranchos will make a Lariat much better.
Just checked the 2008 Order Guide. There is no mention of shock upgrades as on the 2008 SuperDuty.
The Lariat has everything the FX4 has plus chrome bumpers and grille surround, driver side self-dimming mirror, Pueblo Gold honeycomb grille insert, heated side mirrors w/ turn signal indicators, additional steering wheel controls (audio & hvac), no rubber floor mats (carpeted mats), electronically controlled hvac, leather front seats (power driver side) and color-coordinated leather covered steering wheel, message center, defroster in rear window (fixed), and lighted visor mirrors. The Lariat does not have all terrain tires standard as does the FX4.
The chrome bumpers were what pushed me over to the Lariat.
By the time I optioned everything that I wanted on to a FX4, it was only about $500 less than the Lariat with optional skid plates, but the Lariat had leather seats and all the other features that should give it a better resale value.
The FX4 shocks don't say Rancho but they are special "off-road tuned" shocks. Here is what it says on page 3 of the 2008 order guide under Key Exterior Features:
Shock Absorbers, gas (Off-Road shock absorbers on FX4)

huh? They come with the same exact tires. BFG Rugged Trail in the 18" size or Pirelli's in the 20" size. Or if you go for the LT-rated tire option in either truck in the 18" size, you get the Goodyear Wrangler AT/S LT-tires.

My FX4 has driver side self-dimming mirror, heated side mirrors w/ integrated turn signal, just to point it out. I would have love some leather but wasn't willing to pay for the extra.
I have the '04 FX4 and the main reason for going with it over the Lariat was I HATE the fake wood grain stuff in the interior, FX4 has the fake carbon fiber, and I'm not a huge fan of chrome bumpers. My FX4 came with heated mirrors w/turn signals, electric rear window, leather seats, dimming rear view mirror just to name a few. I like the rubber mats because they rinse off easier than carpet.

Oh yeah, mine came with the power sliding rear window and dimming rear view also, i forgot.
How much did Leather seats run you up? I would have loved to have powered/heated/leather seats. And I go mudding a lot with my 4 wheeler so the rubber mats are god sends.
