rear drive shaft question

rear drive shaft question
my rear drive shaft is loose. my truck has a two peice driveshaft it seems like the rubber bushing that holds the center of driveshaft is worn out and it allows the driveshaft to move around making some pretty funky sounds especially in reverse. whats the name or part number or this peice i want to hit up the stealership today and get the parts. thanks for the help.

You might want to remove the whole driveshaft, both pieces, along with the carrier bearing and go to a driveshaft shop and have them install the carrier bearing for you. While you have it apart, you might want to consider replacing the u-joints and have the driveshaft shop balance the driveshaft. Drive train shops are pretty reasonably priced too.

If you take it apart, make sure to chock the wheels and put the e-brake on!!!
Also, you might want to make some markings on one side of the drive shaft so you can put it back on in the same position it came off of. Just a precaution...

When assembled, the u-joints need to be in a straight line. Meaning, the the u-joint caps should be in line with each other. As for the emergency brake, block the wheels, my truck has the emergency brake on the driveshaft, a "not so smart idea" done on some bigger trucks.
