I have a 07 f150 fx4. I am putting in a factory nav radio and wanted to know what it takes to install the streering wheel controls. right now all that is there is the cruise control buttons. Thanks Jay
I thought about doing this too, but I have the Premium 6 disc in-dash. I would think all you'd have to do is change the wheel and get the module to run the controls. I've got an '05 STX. Anyone know? Since the Lariats I've seen have the HVAC controls on the wheel too, will that interfere with anything?.
Depending on which NAV you get a PAC SWI-PS is what you're looking for. It taps the wires coming from the wheel controls and plugs into your aftermarket radio.
It's a factory nav unit I am putting in. I am unsure if I have to change part of the wire harness or if it is already there and just have to chang the controls on the steering wheel. Jason
Yup, like mjlimo said you'd need a new steering wheel as I don't think you can just install the extra buttons. But I think that's the easiest part. If it's not pre-wired to handle the extra buttons you'll need to run new harnesses/wire and hope that the '08 system works with previous years steering wheels. Looking over the schematics for an '06 I believe the inputs from the steering wheel are resistance based all being feed by the same line. So the real question is are the buttons on an '07 steering wheel compatible with an '08 factory NAV. I'll bet it is. I don't know what the color of the steering wheel control wire in the '07 is but in an '06 it's the LB/RB #18 Pin on the radio harness. Good luck, I hope it works out.
So here is what I found. the clockspring is the same for all f150's but the wires between the radio and the clockspring harness need to be added.one goes from pin # 18(radio harness) to pin #3(clockspring harness) and pin# 19(radio harness) to pin # 5 clockspring harness. Both wires are #22 awg The steering wheel will work just have to change the buttons. 140.00 bucks from the dealer. Now I just hve to find the pins for the connectors. Jason
I got it all hooked up today only took about an hour. I was able to get the pins for the connector locally. so far it works great. Now onto the next project. Changing out the manual climate control for the automatic climate control. I will let you know how that goes. Jason
No I didn't take any pics sorry. There is two nuts holding each set of buttons in remove them and they come right out. Just make sure before you tackle this that your radio is compatible with steering wheel controls.
