Question sensor

Hi guys I was just wondering what roll the ebp sensor plays does it change the way your truck runs in the cold, and if it were unplugged would it change the way the truck runs in general my ebpv is gone anyway but I was just curios and also when an ebpv system is working properly does it effect the fueling of the engine in anyway or timing I know that timing is changed when the oil is cold but is the ebp system tied in some how

thanks Walter

waljon, the only thing I know it's for is to help the engine warm up faster. most people here just gut it of unplug it.

Some have claimed MPG gains by having one that works but it has not been verified by the masses. As far as I know it plays no role other than the EBPV.

HELLO tj ok get this one a couple of weeks ago I was reading a thread about this sensor and it got me wondering about if it would change the way the truck ran if it were bad or just by unplugging the ebpv itself and not the sensor as well,so I have mine unplugged just to see what would happen well it's been two days and so far(maybe it's my Imagination)but it seems to run better in the cold and I notice the engine is running cooler when it is warmed up I only have stock gauges so this could be incorrect it also seems to shift better when it's cold? and no cel light

thanks

My tube rotted out one time and I had to run mine without it for a few days till the dealer could find the correct one. I ran it with the tube completely off so the sensor may have as well been disconnected. I did not see any difference between that and when I put it back togerther with the new tube or even when the old tube was on it with a hole in it. I have a manual tranny so I can't comment on shifting though. Good question though I would like an answer to this also just to fill my curiosity.

ok, this question comes up alot, the ebp sensor, part number 9j460, plays absolutly no role in engine performance. its sole role is ebp valve operation. it has no role in injector timing or pulsewidth at all. if it gets plugged or sluggish a code will throw but no light will illuminate since it has no effect on engine operation. the only thing that will happen is the pcm will not allow the valve to operate. by federal OBDII emmsions any failure that will effect engine performance must illuminate the check engine light. this is why trans codes now set the light off. aside form the light not illuminating you can read up on it in you ford powerstroke service manual if you can get your hands on one.

the only ford engine that has used the 9J460 for engine performance is the 6.0. the ebp sensor was used to decide on vgt vane position but since there were so many problems with it the first recall came out with the updated porcelan sensor vs the brass as found in 7.3's and the first 6.0s. still having problems ford decided screw the sensor and the next recall was a pcm update. the update simply removed the ebp sensor from the picture and relied on other variables for operation. (on a side note the throttle body on 6.0's is not used anymore either, another pcm update removed its function as well)

Thanks joe that's good Info you just answered my question AND MORE so if you wanted to disable the ebpv instead of unplugging by the turbo you could unplug this sensor instead with the same effects?

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a service manual by the way LOL

I have a 95 f250, it has 4 inch exhaust, cold air kit, and performance chip....however the engine keeps killing the timing sensor (been through 2) does anyone know why or what else needs to be changed.

Thanks

No I wish I could help out ...the only thing I can suggest is try and run without the programmer see if it still does the same thing other than that hopefully someone else who knows more about this stuff will chime in soon.

oh and welcome to the site !

By Timing sensor I am guessing you are talking about the Cam sensor? If so how long have the 2 sensors lasted? Also what were the symptoms? and what color were the sensors?
