For some reason, after the rebuild my power steering pump hits the steering box at an idle (lumpy cam, makes it quite annoying, bang bang bang bang)
I have been toying around with the idea of switching to serp. setup. I found all the parts from a 1993 f-250 460,
Will they bolt right up ? Timing cover differnces ?
I'm pretty sure i have to go with Elec. fuel pump, Which is fine, becuse my eccentric is making funny noises, and now the neighbor has it in there back yard.
The routing of the belt causes it to turn the other way, so the impeller is reversed so it still functions properly. I knew the serp'd 302's were that way, but didn't know the 460's were the same. My friend shattred the PS pulley on his 4.0 ranger, and had to use a shorter belt and different route that caused the pump to turn the wrong way. He said it never overheated, but his fan made a lot more noise.
A v-belt goes around the pulleys, with the belt driving on the same side on all pulleys. So they all turn the same direction, if the engine turns clockwise, the the alt, waterpump, power steering, etc., will all turn clockwise.
With most serpentine systems, the waterpump pulley is smooth, and is driven by the backside of the belt. So it turns the other way. If the system you are looking at does not run the waterpump on the backside of the pulley, then you should be ok with the original pump.
