Hi evryone, I have read the other posts about the casting numbers for the 460 heads and I am having trouble locating the numbers on my heads. All I see is an X in the area where the numbers are supposed to be. Any help would be appreciated. Also I plan on buying a stroker kit for this 460. It is D9TE-AB block. Is there anything special I need to know about deck height or head bolt pattern, etc before I buy my kit? Thanks Travis

most of the time an X either means it was a factory replacement head or a factory experimental head, but in your case i would suspect a factory replacement head. it could also be just a flaw from factory and the casting number was omitted.
are they the heads that came with the block? since it is a D9 block, i would guess they are either the D3 or equal heads. some of the mid 80's heads had no casting numbers on them from the factory, but just about all heads after 73 up tot the efi heads, were virturally identical heads.
as far as stroker kits go, the D9 block is probably one of the better blocks to use. try and get a complete stoker kit if possible and from a reputable dealer. you might pay more, but you will get better quality parts and fit. problem with buying indivdual parts is getting everything to match properly without headaches. also getting the parts balanced properly after can get very expensive quickly and most good kits already come balanced. you just have to advise them of what dampner and flywheel you are using, internal or external balanced (all 460's after 79 were external balanced).
working with one of the better dealers on your application will make things go a lot smoother than trying to buy off ebay from a reseller/repackager that has little tech knowledge (not to say that they are all that way, just check into them before hand) of your package. like anything, you get what you pay for.
