Its below 20's.
I dont know if its effect due to temp outside .

What kind of bypass of the PATS system are you using? One with a key inside a box or a programable bypass?
If its one with a key, run the truck for a while and make sure (say after a drive home from work, etc.) After you get home try and remote start it. Sometimes if the key is too cold in the box it wont work until it is warmer. Mine does this at times. According to the manufacturer of my alarm/remote start, some Ford keys will do it.

yeah, I hear that colder temps can effect the PATS bypass interface. If you got the bypass antenna that wraps around the ignition cylinder, check out this tip here:

I don't know if this would work or not, but try holding your key (that you normally use and key fob) next to the ignition and press your start button to see if it will start. If it does, then you know your bypass antenna is messed up somehow.

I am having the same problem as you with my ca 530 too.
It will not start the truck on the first try when it is around 0 or so out, if it’s in the teens or above it will start it on the first try.
Are you using tach mode?
And are you at a fuel inject or ignition coil?
I just switched mine to a fuel injector, before I was at a ignition coil and all kind of wired thing were happing.
When it is in tach mode it says it will crank for four second or until the truck

^who installed your system? Or at least who installed the PATS bypass antenna around your ignition?
You should follow the tips (weblink) I posted above and do a better job of wrapping and taping the PATS bypass antenna around the ignition. Your antenna maybe coming loose or something.
Since it did start when placing your key close to the ignition, then you know something is up with your PATS bypass antenna.

Well it sounds like it is either your antenna around your ignition as Steve was saying...or it could be your key isnt warm enough when you are trying to remote start it.
Did you try to remote start it like after your drive home from work when it wouldnt start as I stated earlier? If it works after a drive when it wouldnt before the drive...then its just the key being cold....if it doesnt it would probably be the ring.
Its pretty much narrowed down to two possible issues, but just because you place the key next to the cylinder and remote start it doesnt rule out the cold key idea. I would make sure it istn the cold key before I decided to take off panels and dig into it.

^black04, there is no "hidden key" in the box with his setup. He has the programable PATS bypass antenna, you program it with your two master keys and it "acts" like a key is there when you remote start it. Cold weather is known to effect the bypass antenna if it's not properly taped around the ignition cylinder.

you sure it doesn't look like the one in the first picture (Step 1)?
well, regardless, just make sure yours is secure around your ignition.
or another thought, your bypass may have lost it's programming. You could try to go through the reprogramming steps with both master keys before you start tearing your steering column apart.
