Well, the current estimate is that I should have it running by around April, 2009 if all goes according to plan. As for "wild times", that won't be happening for a while, as I'm going to be babying him for probably quite some time.

I haven't really put him on the back burner, but the progress I've been making is somewhat on little stuff here and there. For example, I've got three guage pods that I'm going to tear apart so that I can make one really good one (with new printed circuit card). There's also a company up in Tacoma that can install background LED's to help brighten the display, which is a major weakness in the guage clusters on these trucks. So, while I'm busy, I'm not doing much that would show any progress.

I've also been harassing Dennis Carpenter on a semi-regular basis trying to find out when they'll be putting the drip rail mouldings and the grille shells back up for sale. My theory is that if they get enough calls, they might get on the stick and get it done.

Also, when I stopped at the upholsterer the other day for the back seats, I spoke with him briefly about my headliner issues, and my plans for that. We're trying to come up with a way to get that done, and have it look right (or at least right to me).

Finally, the usual basis for lack of productivity is usually money. Got to wait until I can afford the parts before I buy them....not going to charge everything and pay it off for the rest of my life.

By the way, Arnold, I envy your move to a house with a shop. If they ever decide to let me move back to Spokane, that's what I'll be looking for.

Gotcha...yeah, I figure Buford is gonna be kinda sexy when he's all done. A few people got to take a gander at my progress this last weekend, and the reviews were pretty positive.

Your truck is shaping up to be absolutely beautiful!!!! I hate you.
Someday Burt will be done as you have done for Buford. I have been working on him for years, but at this point he is still in too good of shape to justify tearing apart....... but someday! I would LOVE to have a clean, freshly painted shiny frame! Outstanding work! Keep going! I love the progress.

Good lookin' truck mate, I'm sure most of us on here can understand the ' do it as money allows' problem you speak of..............but slowly does mean it's not being done in 'that-rigging-will-do-for-awhile' fashion, you know?

Just wanted to tell you I think you are really doing a great job on restoring your truck. You know they say preventative maintenance is far cheaper than repairs so I guess one would have to say it was surerly a good thing that you started your restoration with such a solid truck to begin with. Hats off to you, keep those of us watching updated your work inspires me and I believe others to work on our trucks.

Guys...sorry that I haven't posted anything here in some time, but circumstances haven't allowed me much time for any sort of progress on Buford.

I was basically out of comission in December with my shoulder surgery, and after I got back to work it was all I could do to catch things up. The last couple weeks have been a little difficult for me as my mom has had some medical issues to contend with, and I've had to drive home a couple times to be there for her. The other issue is that I'm at a point with the truck where the colder temperatures aren't letting me get much accomplished, as I need it to be warmer to install the insulation into the cab, as the adhesive won't kick unless it's over 55 degrees.

I have, however, been working on my lists for the engine, and I'm just about ready to make my order with Tim at TMeyer to get the long block put together. Once I have that in motion, then I can start assembling more of the truck, and I can start putting pictures up on the site.

So, again, I apologize for the lack of activity, but it's been a slow winter and too many roadblocks to get things accomplished. I will, however, be making improvements in this area in the next month or two, and will be posting new photos as the work gets back underway.

Ok, first of all, no I'm not dead...I know I haven't posted much of anything to my thread in a while, but I'm taking the opportunity to do so now.

I've made a little progress on Buford. Most of it is the engine build that has been going on with Tim Meyer, which is where most of my extra pennies have been going. I've given him my list, and he's been building a 434 stroker for Buford. We've had a couple minor setbacks, but it looks like the plant will be up and running in the next week or so. I'll hopefully be able to post the pictures in the near future.

The other bit of progress is that I have finally finished and installed my new headliner. I've been keeping my progress on that hush hush until I finished, because if I blew it completely, I didn't want anyone knowing. I've created an album denoting each step I took, so you other guys out there with supercabs might have a direction to go with your headliners, as finding a solution to the supercab headliner problem was always a pain in the butt for most of us. I think I figured out a pretty good solution.

Anyway, I also got my parking brake back in an adjusted this morning, but I didn't figure taking pictures of that was too exciting. That's about it for now. I'm going to be moving in the next couple weeks, so I had to get Buford ready to be shipped to my new location. I might not be able to get much work done on him until I find a new house, but at least he'll be in a good storage unit, and safe from the elements until he has a new home (well, and until I have a new home too!).

'later.

the headliner looks great! i admire you passion for your truck. i feel the same for my old truck. (i guess all of us here do). i have had no time to do any new upgrades to my truck lately. life seems to get in the way sometimes, preventing us from focusing on our projects. you say you are moving, are you still going to be in Washington state?

Yeah, I'll still be in Washington. I'm moving over to the other side of the state in Spokane. I won't be able to work on the truck too much for a while, as I'm having to have it stored until I find a new house, which may take a while. That's the reason that I had to put off getting my truck running this year...can't afford to spend a bunch on the truck when I'm having to pay for the entire move myself. I'll keep chipping away at it, though, and hopefully I'll have it on the road next summer.

Managed to get the visors in yesterday too. Today, I might get a few other odds and ends done, but my main goal is to make it ready for transport (no dangling lines, no loose materials, etc.). I have to call the shipper on Monday to schedule the pick up. My engine is going to have to be shipped to Spokane as well, as I won't be here anymore. I've already coordinated with Tim on that front. It'll all come together eventually, but it'll just take a bit longer, is all.
