What Pete is saying is, our injectors are HEUI(hydralically actuated electronicaly controlled unitized Injectors). The HPOP (high pressure oil pump) uses engine oil supplied by the LPOP(lowpressure oil pump) to hydralically intensify the fuel pressure inside the injector. (hpop is big pump driving the injectors wich are small fuel pumps). our main frame mouted fuel feed pump is realively low pressure as far as diesels go, it only supplies fuel at about 50-55PSI to the fuel gallies(rails) that the injectors draw fuel from. Diesels require very high fuel injection pressure to completely atomize the fuel into the cylinder and achieve a complete burn.
In a PSD oil is truly the life blood of the engine, lubrication, and hydraulic action are its two main functions.
Synthetics Vs Dino oil is a whole nother can of worms. some like them, some (like me )only run Dino, but we all agree that oil of the correct weight for the environment that the truck is operated in the most, as well as clean oil that is correctly rated for a diesel are musts.
When the Mechanic changed your oil what did he use. 15/40 or 5/40. being in Memphis you are on the borderline of running either in the winter. the 5w/40 is a good colder weather oil, and the 15/40 is used for a warmer climate.
Where are you in Tenn? Mike (Tenn01PSD350) is in Clarksville. He has the AE software and will check your truck out if you bring him a beer or two.
Mike - now I owe you another beer for volunteering you!
Thanks Rich, I'm keeping tabs on that tally.
I have asked him before but Memphis is over 3.5 hours away. I am willing to help but that is a bit far. If this new ICP sensor does not work, maybe we could meet somewhere with a buttload of tools and scan that rascal, then try some part swapping. I don't know. His truck is the same year as mine though.
I don't guess anyone is closer? Even folks in Arkansas might be closer.
Wow....the help offered on this site is amazing. I wouldn't be opposed to taking a drive and getting a scan. There is a chance I'll be in Nashville some over the next 7-10 days. Maybe we can try to hook up for a scan if nothing else. Problem is, the scan would need to be first thing (cold) to really tell what the issue is so that might complicate things logistically. If we can't hook up....the offer of help is still greatly appreciated. I hope to put my ICP sensor in this weekend and change to 5w-40 to see what happens.
Yeah, that could make for a problem. I thought you said it is still not 100% even when warm? I would like to do some sensor bias testing, try to track down the injector prob and IDM/PCM code. Could try some PCM and IDM swapping. A truck stop on I40 sounds like a good place for this. Sending you a PM in a few.
Yeah...I think it isn't 100% even when warm but the codes/diag the shop pulls are all when warm. I don't think they've really scanned it when it is much worse on cold start. It is nice that you have same year truck etc....swapping some things might be fairly easy except for the IDM....that looks like a PITA. I'll check my PM in a few ....have to run right now.
