i have a 99 f550 that i use to pull a 24ft. gooseneck trailer that i
haul a backhoe or 450 size dozer on. I need advice on a relatively
inexpensive upgrade chip?? or whatever to help with power and torque
without going overboard. A 40-50 hp. increase would be great.
Dont want to do anything that would hurt rerliability as I make my
living with this thanks.
First you may waant to put a bigger downpipe on ther then get a chip from tony Wildman or DP You might even want to get a Exhaust Gas Temp gauge to keep the truck for a while.
on a 99, they got a big enough DP, if its a late 99 (as in powerstroke badge on door, not dog house) i think you'll like a superchip. it made our 99.5 f-250 6 sp tow like nothing i seen. the intercooler helps with EGT's. we went the second 100,000 miles with the 99.5 on 60 hp, and no related trouble, plus you can read codes (big plus). for a set it and forget it you cant go wrong with superchip for $369.
no any 99 early or late has a round 3 inch downpipe stock. minimum you need for your truck is a chip from here http://www.dp-tuner.com/
and a pyrometer to keep exhuast temps under 1250 for extended periods of time.
shoe horn. I love that one. I guess that is one less thing I need to do to the EX. I have not been under that truck much yet. still waitn' on my garage to be vacated.
nwh, if you are interested i have a superchip I would like to sell. whatever you decide to do I would strongly suggest start with getting an exhaust temperature gauge if your gonna be towing a 450 sized dozer. do you have a automatic or manual transmission?
