I have a 1978 ford F100. I chucked my worn out 302 and 3 spd for a 1977 460 with a C6 automatic from a lincoln continental. It was a pretty simple installation, I just had to get the proper engine stands, a radiator, transmission mount and driveshaft. The only hard part is that if you use stock exhaust you MUST have TRUCK exhaust manifolds. I avoided that and used headers. My truck originally had 3.25 rear end gears, and I had to go REALLY easy on starts to keep from roasting the rear tires, so I put 2.75 gears in it. I also installed the factory cruise control, it plugs right into the wiring harness. I hauled a five foot brush hog in the back of my truck, set the cruise on 75 mph, and the load didn't even slow the cruise down!!
The engine is stock, except for a mild cam, headers, edelbrock intake and holley double pumper, and talk about versatility, I can haul my boat with ease by day and blast out 100 mph romps with the boys at night. There just is no replacement for displacement, that is until you get to the gas pump.
You can use the car oilpan, but it makes the drain plug difficult to get to(like mine is right now.) It puts the plug right in the cradle on the side of the pan. The truck pan drain is in the read. Plus it holds an extra quart of oil.
I just got one for my 77 off of a 77 truck 460 in a junkyard for $50.
I have a set of 460 truck manifolds if you need them.
I just compleated the same swap 77 lincoln 460 in my 78 F-150,I pulled the 351 m that was in the truck and droped the 460 in and used my trany, the exhaust bolted right up on the drivers side but the other side had to be modified a bit I used L&L mounts
And with a bit of shiming i used my alt and power steering pump, if you have a c-6 in your truck now you do not have to chang drive shafts. if you, or anyone else has any questions I would be happy to help.......
