A "good" locksmith should be able to cut a new key by code for you also. Call around as I am not entirely sure what information they may need to cut those. I used to work with a guy that could perform miracles for people.
Good luck with this. First of all, you may not want to get a key cut, as it were. Yes, they can do things like this, but it will NOT resemble a factory key.
Additionally, if our trucks are like many modern vehicles, a "blank" key won't work. My 2003 Taurus, which I bought used, only came with one key. To obtain an additional key I have to either go to a locksmith or the dealership. Either way, the key has to have a chip in it, or it won't work. Nice, huh? Just because the key is using my key means nothing. I had one made with my key as usual and it won't even open the frigging trunk. No chippy, no worky.
Now, a locksmith could make you a key with a chip in it. They usually have them in stock. However, they have to have YOUR key to make it. If your key is bad, as in worn down, the new key won't work either. But you still will have paid for it, whether it works or not. I have a place here that I want to go to for another key because he is the only place that is "reasonable", at thirty bucks or so.
You may go by a locksmith and let them look before they do anything. They could also look at your fob to see wuzzup with that.
I would try the locksmith first, and using the knowledge you have gained on your post and elsewhere, get a free opinion or two.
Last option? Yes, the stealership. I believe they may be able to order a key to match your truck exactly.
Also do any of you know if I can call Ford and give them my VIN and order a key? I know that can be done on newer vehicles but my truck is damn near a decade old...
dealers are able to cut keys from vin numbers and have for many years,I had one cut back in '79 when key was locked inside
I would rather have a key cut from lock code than from a key I am having trouble with
For the last five years I had trouble unlocking either door and the tailgate. I solved the problem on the driver door and the tailgate by removing the cylinder and cleaning and re-lubricating. A couple of quick blasts with brake cleaner, a couple blasts of compressed air and then lubricated with a small amount of fine graphite powder. Avoid using liquid lubricant on lock cylinders. Any dust will clump up and the pins in the cylinder will soon start sticking again. As a test I did not remove the passenger side cylinder but just gave it a shot of brake cleaner. The lock worked for a couple of days and then started sticking again. I will have to remove and clean that one eventually but for now the driver door and the tailgate locks work as if new.
Your key may or may not have a chip in it. I know mine does not. It will depend on whether or not you have any kind of factory security system to help fight theft. You can tell if your key is chipped by how thick the head of it is. You should not need to go to a dealership either way. ANY good locksmith can make a duplicate key in moments for a fraction of the cost at the stealership

I can tell you right now that mine is not chipped either. I do think I have a worn out key, though. I'll have to see if the family knows any locksmiths. thank you.
as for a new key a competent lodksmith should be able to cut you a new key that would be a whole lot closer to the original than the one you have. i had the same problem with a '96 f-150 and asked a locksmith that happened to be on the same job with me. he made me a new key and lubed the locks for about $3.00.
Be wary of trying to get chipped key blanks form the Stealership... they want something like $12 per blank. I was fortunate, though, and when I gave my parts counter guy a hard time over that issue, he ended up letting me get two key blanks for $6.
