So, I picked up a 2002 F250 CCSB 7.3 and have been loving it. The truck runs great and I've started getting used to the diesel experience. I have had one issue that has happened twice and I'm looking for the correct way to remedy it should it happen in the future. First time - had the driver's door open and I was showing a friend the FOB and set the security. We got in the car and he unlocked the doors with the door button. Of course, it wouldn't start. After fumbling around with the FOB, it finally fired up. Second time (yesterday) - I was loading some stuff in the passenger front seat while holding the door open with the FOB in my hand, I again set the security. And again, It just cranked but didn't fire up. I set the security while inside and hit the unlock button on the FOB, but the truck still just cranked. Tried a couple of other things (lock/unlock with the key, set/disabled the security from inside & out, etc). I finally walked around opening and closing each door, set the security, and unlocked the truck using the FOB. It finally started right up.
My question is - if the security gets set while a door is open (this seems to be when I have the issue), what is the correct combination to disable the security so that the truck starts aside from disconnecting batteries? It cranks just fine and I never have any problem with it starting otherwise. I feel I've just been lucky enough to hit some kind of combination to disable the system these two times.
With the door open and the key turned to the first position, press and hold the unlock button on the door. I think after 20 seconds or so you can let it go, but it should start if it's a Ford alarm system.
Thanks, Toreador_Diesel. I'll give that a test tonight. I'd like to get the right combo at home before I get stuck in a parking lot again doing some Chinese firedrill trying to get the truck started. By the way, nice screen name! That's the color of my truck!
