i am looking at some o6/07 and want to know how well the 6.0 compares to the 7.3. are the later models more bug free than the older? can you tune the later models without damage?

thanks,
michael

some say the later models are better
I myself bought what is lnown as the real problem children an early 03
well ive never tuned mine so ive managed to get 100,800 miles trouble free
the problems with the 6.0 are they are smaller than your 7.3 but make more power
well i think the 6.0 has a bigger turbo than the 7.3 this is what aids the head gaskets blowing when tuned
If you want a newer truck get the 6.0PSD its great i love mine. But unlike most of the guys that slap a tuner on to get even more power i just cant shell out for a new motor like alot of these guys do or if its still under warrenty pull the tuner and take it to the dealer thinking you arent to blame for the problem

the 06 and 07's seem to be pretty good, I hardly ever hear about any major problems with them.

07' no problems (only 8K though). It runs like a champ. You can find great 03-04s but I've read of way less problems with 05 and up. If you find one you like just have them run an Oasis report on the VIN# and that can give you a lot of insight on the vehicles history.

You wouldn't have to shell out for a new motor. There are rebuild kits out there that would solve most problems unless you just really blew it up. Now yes, those kits still cost quite a bit, but it's significantly alot less then a new motor. Also if you do your power modifications correctly the first time, then your motor will have a better chance of staying alright and not even need a rebuild kit. And no, I haven't had the need to(nor would I want to) shell out money for either a rebuild kit or a new motor as I'm sure alot of people that run tuners wouldn't or couldn't shell out for either one of those items. Also my dealership knows all about my mods and my mods are far more extensive then just a tuner and I still have a warranty, now I also haven't come in with a powertrain claim yet either, but I still have a warranty and no problems whatsoever.

To the OP: 05 maybe, for sure 06 and later, the 6.0s are really solid, I would try to get one of those if you can.
