So I've been researching because my warranty is so close to being up. Making a list of things to buy this March and now I'm stuck on gauges. My question is should I go with a cluster gauge or a digital set up like the edge? If I go for performance I've already decided from everyone's feedback that Matt's SCT is the way to go. So I don't want the edge for performance, I just think I'd prefer the look of a digital panel as opposed to gauges. What do you guys think? Thanks in a advance for you opinions and experience.
I am very close to buying a DashDaq monitor (it is actually much more than just a monitor). It looks incredible. You can get to their web site w/ a Google search.
However, I am still wondering even if I bought it whether or not I would have to also replace (or add new AM ones) probes for the oil, coolant, and transmission temperatures because the factory probes are not that good.
Does anyone know if it is the factory probes or the gauges (or both) that are not very good?
The one thing that I have learned from when I had a digital monitor and went to a analog gauges is that the sensors read colder then what you would actually see if you do aftermarket probes for the analog gauges. That is particularly true with the difference that I have noticed between the two different tranny temps. That's why I'm really leary of going back to the digital because of that, your still at the mercy of where Ford(or any auto maker) put those sensors.
Does anyone have experience with the Edge Insight? This should provide the digital diaplay you are requesting and provide an accurate EGT reading with the probe.. This is a fairly new product and Maybe someone out there has an opinion. I hear that the dashdaq is a great unit but I wonder if it is worth the difference in price if all you want is gauges.
I have a Bully Dog Monitor. Use it for Boost, Volts and 2 exhaust temps. I can do about 20 other things. I have it mounted above the left air duct. I do not use any hop ups....Good Luck
The Edge Insight is pretty much the exact same thing as the MSD Dashhawk. It has a little less memory so you aren't able to set up as many different screens, or save as much log information. However, the EGT probe for it is available now, where the MSD one for the Dashhawk is still MIA (my source tells me MSD has the probe in stock, they just haven't started selling it yet).
I personally have the MSD Dashhawk and am very happy with it. I am a beta tester, so I was able to get a beta EGT probe to test for them and it seems to work great. Here is my thread with pics of my install, a table of available parameters, and my readings, as well as a lot of other information. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...e-display.html
The DashDAQ is a very interesting unit, but it looks like it might be a little bulky for my taste, and it has a bunch of features that I would never use (I have in dash video player and navigation already), so it isn't worth the price difference to me (costs about twice as much).
I went Bullydog outlook. Digital, can display 4 gauges of about 20, easily change which ones, can accept two Pyrometer probes for exhaust temperature. Mounts on the a-piller easily, looks good, compatible with that SCT Xcal I want to order one day. Conects to the OBD-2 port, easier to install.

You might want to check on that again. If you have the tranny temp gauge on the outlook then it isn't compatible with anything other then Bullydog products unless they have done some update after I had gotten rid of mine about a year ago and I had asked Bullydog and they told me(this was of course at the time, might be different now) "that is would not able to work with anything other then Bullydog products". They didn't tell me why, I just assumed that at the time, it was because they had to make room(memory wise) for the tranny temp gauge and the defuel option that goes with it, that they needed to take something off. Also I will tell you this, the temps and readings that were taking from the outlook with the exception of the EGT probe, were cooler readings then what I'm getting now, so while the outlook might think your tranny temp is fine, it actually might be getting cooked at a hotter place and the fluid is actually hotter then what the outlook sees.
