Coolant flush and refill procedure?
This is the 6.0L section and I drive a diesel 6.0L EXCURSION!!!
Now repeat after me.....
"I will never state again that Beachbumcook drives an Expedition, he drives a real truck... a 6.0L diesel Excursion!!!"
Now repeat that that 50 times!!!!!!
BTW, I have not yet figured out a way to filter my window washer fluid.... hmmmm... maybe a small in-line fuel filter from the small engine/motorcycle shop... now that I think of it????

Yes...What was I thinking, Those expeditions with their wimpy triton engines!
Why spend more time and money using something else???????
Here is what you do.... (I do it every 50,000 miles just becuase it is fun to do and I am **** about my maintanence).
1) Buy 4 galons of Ford Premium Gold coolant at dealer
2) Buy 15 gallons of distilled water at local grocery store.
3) Drop lower radiator hose until empty.
4) Reconnect hose and add distilled water to degas bottle until full.
5) Drive truck until temp guage goes to normal and thermostat opens.
6) Repeat steps #3 through #5 no less than 4 or 5 times (depends on distilled water amaount used) - I can't remember?
7) You now have 100% distilled water in your system.
8) Drop lower hose 1 last time, drain and reconnect.
9) Look in manual for your system capacity and for a 50/50% refill of coolant just add the coolant straight into your degas bottle up to the amount that equals a 50/50% concentration.
10) Start motor and add distilled water to bring system level to the MIN mark on degas bottle.
11) Drive truck around to open thermostat and let cool 1 or twice to purge any air. May need to add more distilled water (don't add coolant)... but when done you have flushed your entire system and have a perfect 50/50% concentration of coolant and distilled water!!!!
The dealer only uses tap water and so does most other places... distilled is best in order to keep the minerals out of your system.
Good luck.....
Quick, simple and can be done in about 90 minutes!!!!!

Have you ever used:
VC-9 Motorcraft Engine Cooling System Iron Cleaner (2 quarts)
while you have done your flush?
I will repeat Beachbumcook drives an
Ex plorer
Ex pedition
Ex cursion
Easy to make a mistake the way Ford named them.
Thanks again.

Beech, I pullled my t-stat when doing the final 5 flushes and that way you can do a flush about every 5 to 10 minutes as you don't have to wait for the t-stat to open. Also by popping the left block plug you get another 2 to 3 qts. out and it takes about 10 seconds to pop. Not worth the trouble to drop starter for right bank. With t-stat out the engine flushes good and fast.

Just flushing with distilled water and Ford Premium Gold coolant every 50,000 miles has seem to work for me.
I flush and re-fill every 50,000 miles in my 6.0L PSD truck, which is half the service interval that Ford has in their manual. I also have a Dieselsite.com coolant filter installed.
For those two reasons, I have never felt the need to use the VC-9 cleaner... but I am sure it would only be a benefit if I did... but then again, Ford has stated until recently that their Premium Gold Coolant was good for 100,000 miles and no need to add additives or check nitrates... but we now know how wrong they have been for 6 years!!!
Thanks,
