Hey guys, got a question. I just bought an 01 Crew Cab Lariat. Just wondering if i can get the factory keyless entry. I did not recieve the entry fobs, was told not all superduty lariats came with keyless entry. basically just wondering if anyone knew how to decipher the VIN to tell me if I can just get them from Ebay and get them coded up. thanks fellas.
no, it doesnt have the buttons on the outside. the dealer told me that not all superdutys came with keyless entry automatically. i was kind of surprised too.
You can try the programming procedure for reprogramming remotes, if step 5 in this procedure works then you do have keyless entry and just need to buy some remotes to program.
If step 5 doesn't work, your truck does not have the keyless entry option.
1. Ensure the vehicle is electronically unlocked.
2. Put the key in the ignition.
3. Turn the key from the 2 (LOCK) position to 3 (OFF).
4. Cycle eight times rapidly (within 10 seconds) between the 3 (OFF) position and 4 (ON). Note: The eighth turn must end in the 4 (ON) position.
5. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been activated.
6. Within 20 seconds, program the keyless entry keypad by pressing the 7 • 8 and the 9 • 0 controls at the same time.
7. The doors will lock, then unlock, to confirm that the keypad programming mode has been activated.
8. Within 20 seconds, program the remote entry transmitter by pressing any button on the transmitter. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
9. The doors will again lock, then unlock, to confirm that this remote entry transmitter has been programmed.
10. Repeat Step 8 to program each additional remote keypad or entry transmitter.
11. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position after you have finished programming all of the remote entry transmitters. Note: If more than 20 seconds have passed you will need to start the procedure over again.
12. The doors will once again lock, then unlock, to confirm that the programming mode has been exited.
I think that keyless entry was standard on the lariat model. I just bought a 01 crew cab lariat and it didn't have the remote with it, so I did the test that GregsSD is talking about and it worked so I just bought a remote off of ebay and programmed it yesterday and it works great.
I have had three Superdutys since 2002 and I beleive they all came standard with remote keyless entry (key fobs). The only option was the security group which gave you the keypad on the driver's door which my current XLT has. I recently bought my 05 XLT used, and it was missing one of the key fobs. Two days ago, I went to Drew Ford here in San Diego and bought a remote key fob brand new. It was $42.00 and the service guy did the above mentioned proceedure in about 10 seconds. Magic, it works perfectly. No charge for the proceedure, and they even cut me a new Ford key for free too.
Sweet!!! Just got my New(used) key fobs from eBay, and thanks to GregsSD, I am now rocking and rolling!!! no more sticking the stupid key in the doors to get in!!!!
what if this doesnt work, and you dont have the option keyless entry...is there any way to put it on so i can use the stock ford keyless remotes? or is the only option buying an aftermarket alarm?
