Ok guys i need a big question answered. I wanna build a 332 stroker motor. I know John murrmet sell a kit but i was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy the pieces myself? What parts does he use to get the stroke and bore? If i could get some specs id love to look into it.
THanks
Do you mean a Ford y-block stroker? As opposed to a FE 332 or a Lincoln y-block?
If and when I get the chance to build a y-block stroker, I'll use either a 312 with an offset grind on the rod mains, and use custom rods and pistons, or go with a custom grind on a 351 crank. There's a guy here in Boise with a special crank lathe that can do the offset grinds without drama.
The other part of this kind of build-up would be the bore of the block. I've heard of some ungodly overbores on y-blocks, and if you're going for cubic inches, I'd be thinking in terms of a bore of 3.86" from a 50's 292 or 312 block.
