I just bought a 77 F-150. The previous owner said it originally came with a 460, but they replaced it with a 302 from the same year. Heres my problem...I went to get sprk plugs for it and everywhere I went they gave me ones that would not fit. The casting number is E7TE-9H23-CA. Can anyone help me figure out what this is?
I don't believe the 302 they put in was from 77, since the E7TE casting # is from the late 80's or 90's if I'm not mistaken. My 77 F150 has the original 302 that came in it and when I rebuilt it I replaced the original heads with a set of E7TE heads, which supposedly came off of a 90's vintage Mustang GT. I have Motorcraft Autolite 25 sparkplugs installed in mine.

The number you posted is WRONG for a casting number. Block casting numbers include the numbers: 6015 / heads = 6049.
9H23X relates to the fuel system.
The emissions tag on the valve cover has that info on it. Look at it again, if 1977, it should be D7TE.
The reference to 9H23X is for the part number for the tag ONLY!
Casting numbers are found on the block and heads...not on valve covers.
Engine related parts basic numbers begin with 6 / Fuel related parts basic numbers begin with 9.
Just because the sticker on the valve cover has E7TE (1987) on it (if that's truely what it is), that doesn't mean the engine is from 1987. Someone may have just swapped valve covers.

What I usually do in this kind of situation is pull an existing plug to see what it is - from there you can do any cross-reference as well as any adjustment for hotter or colder heat range to any other brand of choice.
E7TE are late model 87-up heads. Same as used on EFI trucks and HO Mustang 5.0 engines. Much better than the 77 heads. It may even be a complete HO roller motor.
