I have been rebuilding a shortbox 77 F150, It has a style side bed now but would like to replace it with a mid 80's stepside bed. Not sure what all is involved. Can anyone help me?
The '78 F100 that I bought last year has an older stepside bed (with the angled top rails) and
mid '80s fiberglass fenders. The glass fenders don't match the style of the front fenders and doors, but it looks okay until I can buy new bed sides and fenders.
Take some measurements and see if the wheel openings will line up, also top of bed rails to top of frame on both boxes and compare the two.
I far as I know the bed should drop right on and bolt up with no problems. I haven't done this exact swap but was considering it and did some research on it a few years ago. The only possible problem I can think of is the vent hose on the gas tank may be on the wrong side but a longer hose wrapped around will fix that.
