ok so it was working. but tonight was driving somewhere. and heres the weird part, i parked in front of someones house on a slope, and went out to get something, got back in to start it and the starter motor was barely turning over. tried again same thing, but i held the key and the starter evetnually sped up and the truck fired up. drove again and stopped a few minutes later. same thing happened, motor would barely turn but this time couldnt get it started again. pulled the starter and the damn starter gear would spin both ways. so either i have some bad luck with cheap starters or somethings causing this to happen.
i know this parking on a slope thing seems unrelated but it did that same thing a mnoth or so ago. but it started then and the problem went away until last week.
so what could be causing this?????
lol. ok. think i finally got it. went to get my truck last night it started drove to the mechanic and he put on a 10 tooth gear on the starter instead of 9. and it starts fine now.
thanks
TOLD YOU IT WAS THE STARTER!...lol. At this point, I don't have the time and energy to go back and re-read all the threads, but I thought we established that you had the correct starter, ( based on what they SHOULD have given you, if correct for the application you provided them). I don't know, but I'm guessing that they gave you a manual trans starter. You may still need to show that guy your truck around back, and maybe your new aluminum baseball bat... Good luck with the new starter...that should fix that..., now,... If you still want a carb, I got this Advance Auto carb for a 75 Pinto, should fit your truck no problem....
Who knows... it's from Advance Auto. I don't really even know what all it fit, but one things for sure, it's got their "Lifetime" guarantee : once you buy it, you've got it for your lifetime.
Errmmm, I don´t think you quite get it... a 1975 Pinto has a 4-banger, probably smaller than a 2.0L, prolly came with a 1bbl carbonator....
Regardless, I´m glad you got ur start problem figured out; without seeing the actual vehicle & parts it´s hard to gauge what the problem might be, and I quite honestly prolly wouldn´t notice such a difference unless I compared the gears pretty closely. I was operating on the assumption that the parts store was giving you the correct & proper part for your application, it never occurred to me that such a difference might exist. Thanks for posting the update!
