i want tobuild a 351w efi, for my 4x4 e-250, i plan to use the e40d trans, and iwant solid torqe for towing, and good mpg (is 15mph out of the question?) i have the intake, throttle body, injectors and rails from a 96 bronco. im hopin for something along the lines of 300hp and 400lbs of torqe, i have 2 engines to choose from one is a 69 351w v4 witch is in the van now and has a slight rod knock and a 78 351w 2v what im wonderin mostly about is heads are the 69 4v heads better then thoose new cheap ironheads they come out with a few years back the ones made for explorer 5.0's? so any build recipes would be great thanks
I hope those intake parts are from a 5.8 bronco otherwise they won't fit.
Of the 2 motors you have the '69 is better, but the heads will need to be reworked for unleaded fuel. The GT40 or Explorer heads are better though and have more potential when ported. My combo prouces the numbers you want(on paper), and gets 14-15mpg combined, 12-13 cty, 17-18 hwy. You'll need SEFI to get the milage I think, nobody else here has reported hwy milage I see so I'm betting it's a factor. Your tranny will pose a problem, you'll need a stand-alone controller for it to run the Mustang SEFI computer, or you'll have to find a more rare F150 mass air computer.
yes the intake is off a 5.8, were would i begin to look for a sefi? how do you tell the difference between them and the regular efi? (i knew there was a reason i stuck to carbs lol)
Somewhere around 1994-95 mass air was added to the F150, and sequential injection came with it, so just look for a truck with mass air. You don't want a '96 though, that's OBD2.
go to www.fordfuelinjection.com and search on that site. there is a link there that will take you to a place that makes mass air kits for a good price and the quality is top notch.
