351W heads
Where are the head casting #'s located?
Are they typically visible while on the block? I can only see a 3 digit # under the #1 & #8 exhaust ports.
Do the air injected heads suffer from reduced flow?
Do the '69-76 use same heads for 2V and 4V?
I have a EB with a 75 Torino 351W (air injected heads) and access to 351W heads off of '69 351W 'stang.
I sold a bunch of 60's Pontiac stuff recently(many style of heads) and realized certain Pontiac heads are substantially more desirable. Is this the case with SBF heads?
I answered my own questions. This forum and the knowledge is awesome!
Looks like 69-70 heads are better other than aftermarket heads.
Good day!

I'm planning to update the info in the the sticky, just haven't found the time yet. The head casting number link still works though.
I was told many years ago that the '69-'70 351W 4V heads were the best stock production heads (at that time). One of my books also says the '69 heads are better than the '70 heads. A friend who owns a machine shop and I spent some time looking closely at quite a few of these heads and could find no difference between '69 and '70 heads, and between 2V and 4V. They're not even marked 2V and 4V like some of the 289 heads, so the only way you know is if you know the car they came off of. I have a pair that came off a '69 351w Eliminator Cougar. No discernable difference between those and several other sets I have, and several sets he had. I believe he even cc'd chambers and ports.
Sorry for taking your fun away!
I did mean better than other stock heads.
I was thinking of scrapping the 69 heads but now I think I will hang on to them just incase I want some better performance.
On the air injected heads(1975 vintage), I simply plugged the hole at rear of heads with a hi temp sealant covered bolt. Will this method operate with satisfactory results or should I have done something different?
There is less than 1/2" between the firewall and the rear of heads, so any further monkeying around will be alot of work.
Yeah, hang on to those '69 heads, they're still decent as far as stock heads go and can be ported quite nicely. I have two or three sets, one set has bronze guides, 1.94/1.60 valves, screw-in studs and major port work. Never been run since it was all done, maybe someday I'll flow test them.
