My 77 F150 did not have the anti-rattle springs when I bought it, so during that stage of the restoration of my truck I did not install them. How important are these anti-rattle springs? I bought my truck and immediately began the restoration and I have not driven it yet, so I don't know if they will rattle or not.

They are more than anti-rattle springs they are part of the caliper support key Installation and cannot be left out of the mix.

That spring is used to help break the friction of two items that must slide with in each other, If the metal is a close tolerance, then rust or grit would bind the metal and the caliper would not work. Use a high grade grease that is high temperature resistant and grease all sliding surfaces on reassembly. If you omit the spring the caliper will have to much play and will jam at an inoperable position and you will not have full wheel braking. JNT

The dealership i bought my '75 from made a habit of removing the anti-rattle spring off the driver's side disk brake pad so the pickup would come back for warranty repair! :(

Believe it? :)

Your gramma's belief that "people are basically good" just plain ol' falls flat on it's face sometimes. ;)

Johnson Motors
Safford Arizona
Mid 70's at least.

The brand new Ford pickups from Johnson Motors would drive by my house (over the railroad tracks) and rattle to beat hell.
So did my brand new one! :/
I figured out what the rattle was ...and fixed it myself. :)

How'd I know they were from Johnson Motors? ;)
Because they would put their bumpers on them.

When a guy would complain, just the same as I did, the mechanic would go out of sight, come back and claim that the factory bumpers won't fit -your pickup- since "your pickup has a one-ton frame under it-! :)".

I went out and looked at a few F100's and my newly ordered and delivered '75 F150 then claimed that "those F100's had one-ton frames under them too-! :) same as mine-! :)"

The mechanic looked at the "boss"... the boss nodded and the mechanic looking like he was having to do extra work, slowly went to change out the bumpers.

I ended up with sorry after-market bolts.

Amazing how many guys that had that pulled on them would brag on their F-whatever had a one-ton frame under it! :(
Pretty disappointing all around. :(

I ordered and paid for factory undercoating too... take a guess what I got instead. ;)

Talking

Haha, this is making me laugh

I looked into this thread just out of curiosity, then looked into the autozone link and looked over the diagram. The clip looks just like the clip I found on my shop floor, I didn't know what it was at the time, and I had just done a brake job on my truck. Now today I went to take my truck out for it's first drive after restoration, and one of the front brakes were rattling. Now I know why!

Thanks!
