I have a 79 with front disc brakes that rattle like crazy. I replaced the anti-rattle spring clips on the inside pads, but it doesn't stop the outside pad from rattling on every bump in the road. It just doesn't sound good going down the road.
My question is:
Are there any calipers out there that I can replace these rattle traps with that would solve my problem? Or does anyone out there have an easier fix for the stock calipers?
Are you sure it's the brakes? When you find some bumps that make it rattle - go over them again but press on the brake pedal lightly, if the rattle is still there, then it's not the brakes. I've had loose/worn shocks rattle too.
There is a spring (arched flat metal) that keeps the caliper tight in the spindle. Was that installed correctly with the "I-beam" shaped slide? They do wear out, loose their strength and need replaced. Check that too.
On the outside pad there is a spring clip that hold's them in place as well, the raybestos part# is H 5418-2. They clip on to the side of the pad and squeeze down when the pad is installed on the caliper
