Question Oil in inter cooler pipe

Yesterday I pulled off one one of my pipes to the intercooler and found oil in it. Is this from blowby? And is there any easy fix? Thanks, Dave

Yes, it's blow by. There is a fix. Search the CCV mod. Basicly the little dog house on the drivers valve cover is turned around. (crank case vent) Then you take a piece of 3/4" hose and route it from there over the brake booster to where you want it to come out. Some put it in a canister on the frame, some just dump it right there behind the wheel well. Don't forget to plug the hole in the intake tube. That will stop the oil in the intercooler tubes.

The oil dosent hurt a thing. It is comon to find oil build up in the cooler pipe. You can add that external crank vent if you like but its a waste of time. Think about it, if you have that much compression loss or blow-by you have bigger problems to tend to.

I disagree. Oil in the intercooler can build up over time and cause the cooler to be less efficient. Also, oil in the pipes will cause boots to slip and cause boost leaks. Also by redirecting the hot vapor out of the intake, it keeps the intake charge cooler and more efficient. Remove the stand pipe in the intake, better air flow....

All engines have blow by to some degree, otherwise there wouldn't be crank case vents. Not only blow by, but hot oil, metal, rotating parts will naturally out-gas. Thus needing a vent. So just because there is blow by, doesn't mean there are "bigger problems".

This mod is WELL worth doing.

Yes, All That You Said Is Correct And Very True. The Intercooler Is A Heat Exchanger And There Are Many Factors That Can Reduce Its Efficientcy. My Question Is This, What Percentage Of Incesase Does That Mod Give?.... I Too Can Write A Summary Of, And Or About The Internal Workings Of An Engine. I Am New To This Site And Think It Will Be A Lot Af Fun. Thank You For Your Time.

the best thing to do on a turbo or supercharged engine would be to re-route the vapors out of the engine but you need it "sucked" out to maximize efficiency. adding a small electric motor inline to draw the vapor out is the best route

Zero..... It's not an increase your looking for, but rather a way to keep from seeing a decrease. And even if there was a gain from removing the hot vapors, it would be very small.

Oh yeah, welcome to the site. We look forward to seeing you on the boards. And I myself am looking forward to your writeup.

i would say there is the potential on the crazy guys trucks doing the 600 hp numbers that if you add a vent to the passenger side and have them plumbed to electric motors to pull the vapors out that you would have an increase in horsepower. but on a basicly stock 300 horse truck then i agree, no noticeable gains. but i am still drafting a plan to add a vent to the passenger side of my truck, i dont like the idea of not having one over there on a boosted engine.
