As much as I hurt and am disgusted with life, all one needs to do is look around and possibly might see someone worse off than himself. I do that all the time. Still don't change the fact that one can have too much fun or work or accidents and foul it all up for our own personal eternity.

I'm surprised more of you aren't as grouchy as I seem to be some nights. Carl.. you on SSDI, if I may be so personal? I'm at the hearing stage and just have no positive thoughts on it, after facing so much negative.

Well let me start by saying im POed at FTE cause i just finished typing this up and got logged out and lost it all so i guess i will do it AGAIN

Anyways, here are my serious injuries to date

Body part: Right Knee
Injury: Shattered bone that protrudes from inner side of joint (dont remember the technical name), stress fractured the joint itself, torn both miniscusis, ripped my ACL, torn almost all the rest of the cartilege
Symptoms: Constant pain, occasional swelling, bone on bone contact with every step (as weight is put on it i hear/feel CLICK, accompanied by pain), pain is made worse by sharp impacts, gives me a limp that i can hide (with effort)
Cause: Many years of injuried i failed to get treated (I HATE going to the doctors...)from sports and stupidity and work. Baseball, basketball, track, X-country, rock climbing, work, stupid showboating

Body Part: Left knee (AKA the "good knee")
Injury: Torn cartilege
Symptoms: occasional pain/swelling
Cause: same as right knee

Body part: Head
Injury: An estimated 15 concussions (no way to confirm some other than observing pupil dialation)
Symptoms: Occasional sharp or throbbing pain, terrible short term memory, suspected nerve damage, occasional sight problems, my head feels "spacey" sometimes for no reason
Cause: Repeated blows to head. Mainly from falls off things, failed jumps over things, falls while rock climbing, my friend hitting me with his truck, etc.

Body part: Right little finger
Injury: Broken 3 times
Symptoms: suprisingly little pain, but cant straighten finger all the way
Cause: caught in basketball net, quading, fight

Body part: Ribs
Injury: Broken/fractured alot, crushed front of rib cage when i was really young (luckily when your that age your bones are like green wood, they bend dont break so i ended up with a dent in my chest instead of punctured lungs)
Symptoms: Occasional pain, dent in chest (great conversation starter)
Cause: Jumping/falling off my a chair and catching myself with my chest on the arm of my friends couch. All the other broken ribs from fights, rock climbing falls, my friend hitting me with truck (same one as concussions, 2000 F350 PSD w/ ranch hand grill guard, ouch!)

Now between all these injuries i am guarenteed to be in some sort of pain at all times, which has been a good thing because through living with it my pain tolerance is incredible, which lets me power through any situation. I gotta say that the worst is when i wake up and my knee is in that spot where bone hits bone and i have to fully bend or straighten my leg and the bones just grind together...thats the most intence pain ive ever felt.

Now i dont really worry about all this stuff, i just saddle up and keep going.
And yes i'l admit that a fair share of these occured through bets, my pride wont let me turn down many challenges. The song by Chris Cagle called "Cause the chicks dig it" basically explains my philosophy on life

Now obviously i didnt post the whole story about any of those, but if anyone is interested i'l be more than happy to elaborate on any you want to hear about.

Wow, the only thing I have to deal with is a little tendonitis in my hands from working too hard and high blood pressure from stressing out over keeping up with the demands at work.
I'll be 51 next week.
Oh, and I'm nearsighted.

"Handsome" is only in the eye of the beerholder.

(A Deep Thought) Carl also told me you don't have any mirrors in your house

I have always said,,, If I had known I'd live this long, I would have taken WAY better care of myself!!!" I blew my ACL when I was 8 and have never had it fixed, tore my rotator cuff in '95 and never had that fixed,, we never seemed to have insurance!! I was told at 35 that I needed hip replacement because the cartiledge is gone and it's bone on bone, but they just won't do the preocedure on anyone so young,,, Don't understand that, but whatever,,,

I'm 44 now and my knee kills me when I have to climb more than two towers, but Advil and anti-inflammitory drugs have become very good friends of mine!! Can't take more than that as they have a zero tolerence policy about drugs and alcohol on the job!! Funny thing is, it's not going up the ladder that bothers me, it's coming down.

I started working at a very young age due to my dad being paralyzed in a car accident when I was 6 yrs old. .I've been injured several times over the yrs & have lots of arthritis pain now. My worst injury was a motorcycle wreck which broke my L5 & my pelvis when I was 22. I've learned to live with the pain but some days its tough. When I have a real bad day I just think about the many people who have it much worse than I do..After watching my dad live in constant pain for 40 yrs I know life could be much worse. I only take pain medicine when I have too. I'm only 54 but I feel much older. Cold weather makes my pain much worse but I just get up & keep going. I'm old school.I just take life the way it comes at me & don't let it stop my having fun.

That's my problem. Regardless of my pain, I can barely stand to be idle. I got up this morning and got on my yard tractor and plowed the whole area. Sitting here, at this point, thinking about switching over to my voice recognition program to do the typing for me. It still isn't 100% trained to recognize all my words, but I'm slowly getting it there.

Some of you remind me of how crappy I felt at your age. I guess, I've done much better than I originally thought... but I've been living on pain meds for so long now, that I can barely remember when I started them, just to be ABLE to function and get some work done.

I feel sorry for those of you who are still so young and have been injured so many times. Keep on truckin guys and Mz Bunny... that's about all we can do, until it's just impossible to get a job that'll sustain you....or be able to meet their physical reqirements.

Pain is a pretty common thing anymore, it seems. What really urks me, though, is the guy that says, "Oh yeah, I got a bad back...but when I'm hurting, I just work harder." Sorry pal, but you ain't got a bad back then. Wait until you know real pain, down the legs, across the back...stabbing, shooting, gawd-awful pain that ya just can't describe.

Good luck to all of you painer pals.

Well i guess I have more injuries than I listed too, but I went with what cause me the most pain.

Based on what some of you say I'd have to say I'm in pretty good shape.

I have broken my nose, therefore I can only breath through one nostril. I did something to my shoulder when I hit a cow doing 60mph, that also included my left hand being blow through the passenger side window via the air bag.
Several years ago I found out I had broken my foot in three places and it never healed correctly, that due to another horse.

Hmm...mulitple stitches, inlcuding 3 I did myself, much to my wifes dismay. A few scars here and there, and, I too, am near sighted, but I found out today my friend has a degenerative eye disease and he'll be blind in three years. He's 31.

So I guess I ain't got it too bad.

So along these lines what is it you do for joint pain?...It seems for me Vicoden is the only thing that works...Ibuprofan and Asprin just don't cut it anymore.

I've graduated to Oxycontin 20 mg TID. Not sure where I will go after this becomes useless. Maybe a long walk off a short cliff...or go bath in old fish oil and take a drive up to where I know the griz like to hang out.

Getting to be pretty much a whussy and not looking forward to getting a lot older. I do forsee a wheelchair somewhere in my future. And that sucks big time. I already use the little cutesy "old fart carts" at the major retailers, when I'm hurting really bad. Most times I carry myself with the cart, because it's still to embarassing to use the powered carts all the time.
