Advance has never heard of the PSD's taking the long t-stat and Keeter Ford sold me a short one too. Seems to me they should have known which one it took.Maybe looking to cash in on some repair work? Advance couldn't even cross reference it to come up with a long stem t-stat. All their books and computer show is the short one. I took the short one with me and had them to get a new waterpump off the shelf, stuck the t-stat in and showed them how far away it was from the pump bypass.
NAPA ask " well why does it need to be that long " ? They also sell the short one.
I will be taking the pump off this afternoon and I'll let everyone know what I find out.
I'm getting kind of worried about it.If it has caused major problems I think Advance & Ford should pay to have my truck fixed. I have grown a little angry over the past month trying to figure out why this was happening,I just hope there is no damage to my truck.
well you might have cause a damage, i read somwhere that the short t-stat, will cause partial circulation, cauing rear of the block not to get the proper cooling and overheating it, and you gauge wont show it at all.
i think those idiots dont know what they are talking about. you need long steam t-stat, and take it apart ASAP. dont drive it like that, i hope your motor is ok.
Yep -- the coolant back there sits & cooks while what little comes out past the 'stat & sensor are cool as can be. Not good -- I'm prayin' for ya' though!!
This is a bad sign. Especially if the engine is still cold to the touch and it's building pressure.
Head gasket.
.
It is starting to look that way. He hasn't stated it the pressure build up started right after his repairs, or if he drove it around for a while then noticed it. If that is indeed his problem, did the short t-stat cause it?
Well I took off the waterpump. Is it possible that the fan on back of the pump is backwards ? The fan is reverse rotation and the fan will just be slapping water. Seems to me like it should be the other way to pump water, like digging into the water. Dont seem to be any signs of fuel in the coolant,No smell either.
The old T-stat as far as I recall was also short, but I didn't look at the pump depth before I tossed it. This one is 2 1/8 deep and the short T-stat will not reach it.
The rotation on the fan is counter clock wise. The engine turns clock wise there fore the belt crosses the top of the pully to make it turn counter clock wise.
