Thermostat

What is the difference between a 180 and a 195 degree thermostat. I live in Northern Kentucky, the temp. is as cold as 20 degrees in the winter to 95 degrees in the summer. Will it hurt the engine performance if I put the 180 or 195.

I think you have to go with the stock temperature thermostat. Due to the higher temperature messing with the calibrations of the computer.

The parts supplier should be able to tell you what the stock temp. is, I'm not really sure even though my truck used to have a 300 I-6 in it.

Hope this helps

Yes , If you go to a lower temp thermostat , the ECT Sensor sends that info to the computer & the computer will adjust the mixture accordinly , causing the engine to run a little richer than it should be running . Is your engine running hot ? I noticed Ford has a new design on their thermostats , it keeps the engine temp more constant than previous thermostats .. Ford Part No. XL2Z 8575 AB.

Thanks for the info. The reason that i asked because the temp. gauge nevers goes pass the N on NORMAL but the past week it's been going up to the R then quickly drops back down to the N. Then it will stay their. Until the next day when the engine cools it will do it again. And I didn't know if it was sticking or not. I'm going to replace it but did not know what degree thermostat it was.

The temperature setting of your thermostat should be stamped into the button on the back side away from the point. Like I said it should be stamped on the back, if not it should be stamped somewhere on it.

Good luck, I know my truck never even hits the N
on the temperature scale. But I'm also running a bottle of "water wetter" from redline synthetic in the cooling system too.

Id say if you noticed the gauge going higher than it previously had on initial warm up this indicates the thermostat is taking longer to open . Given the cost & ease of replacement its cheap insurance to replace it with a new one .
