Exhaust Question

I was looking at my exhaust pipes after a mesage that I posted back a while ago and noticed that I have 2 Cats on one pipe. My question is do I really need both of them. This is on a 87 F-150 EFI 300.

Thanks for your input!

Exhaust Question

Do you have emissions testing where you live ? Some people remove both cats . Its kind of a dicey question . Its against the law to remove or alter any of them . Your engine will breath & run a little better , Esp low end torque area . Its up to you whether or not you remove them . Removing them is an owner thing , very few shops will do it because of the fines involved , Usually in the $25,000 range .

Exhaust Question

No there is not an emissions test in Nebraska. Is there a performance Cat made that I could replace them with. Or what would you think about removing (or knocking the guts out of them) and just run a straight pipe with a hi-performance muffler somewhere on the pipe to help cut down on the noise. RIght now I'm looking for easy ways to get a few more HP out of my engine until I am out of College. Then comes the more expensive upgrades. Right now I have had the engine rebuilt and I Just installed a K&N air filter. THe filter seems to be having a small increace in performance.

Exhaust Question

There are a few ways to boost the engines power . Things like an Msd Ignition , Cat back exhaust systems from Borla , Flowmaster or Gibson . A performance computer chip . I have seen people remove the cats , knock out the catalyst material & then weld it back in . That & a performance exhaust system will make a considerable difference .

Exhaust Question

Is there a performance chip avaiable for my truck?
it is a 87 F-150 300 EFI. I had herd that I was one year too earily for a chip upgrade.

Do you think that the Bosch +4 plugs would give me better performance or MPG. Right now I am using Splitfires. This is to gowith an MSD Ignition when I can afford it.

Exhaust Question

There is a Computer Chip section here at FTE . Im sure if you read the threads you will find a lot of info . As for spark plugs , Some say this works better than that ?? Ive heard some people say the multiple ground plugs work better than single ground ones . Since spark plugs arent overly priced & fairly easy to replace , Id suggest you try different ones compared to the Motorcraft ones designed for your engine & decide for yourself .

Exhaust Question

Maybe it was wishfull thinking but I swear just putting in a msd blaster coil made a noticable improvement - around $40.
