Saw something disturbing from my truck about an hour ago! I cranked my truck this afternoon and backed it about ten yards and then pulled forward into garage. (everything normal) I tinkered with truck for about two hours (non-mechanical or engine related) Cranked 2nd time to back out of garage. Looked in rear view mirror only to see large flume of blue grey smoke. It only lasted a few seconds and cleared. Truck is an 06 5.4 Screw with 14,000 miles and four oil changes to this point. What did I just see??????????? Is there a need for concern?????????
Thanks in advance.
Just sounds like a rich "poof" from having run it for only a short time and shutting it down. I wouldn't worry unless it regularly does it after shutting down a fully warmed engine.
That is what I was hoping to hear. Can you explain in laymen's terms kind of what occurs to create this rich condition and what actually creates the smoke. When I think smoke, I think two cycle where you run a fuel and oil mixture and you can create a rich or lean condition based on how much oil is mixed with the fuel. Obviously, with our trucks the oil and the fuel never mix. Just wondering. Thanks again for your quick reply.
Something similar to when you have to use the choke on a motorcycle to start it when cold. more fuel is necessary. If you shut it down while its in the middle of that its probably just some extra fuel left in the system that didnt make its way out
