So my truck has had a vibration that happens when accelerating from a stop, for quite some time... The truck has a 4" suspension lift and a 2-piece driveshaft, and I made the problem A LOT better by shimming down my driveshaft support bearing to make my driveshaft a bit straighter
but the vibration is still there... I figured I might try to shim my rear axle and point the diff up more towards the t-case... Anybody have experience with this? How many degrees would I need for a 4" lift and where can I buy them? Couldn't find any on summit...
The suspension kit you bought wasn't a block kit Chris? If it was it should have come with block shims....wedge blocks if you will........I don't see why you couldn't get them from a 4x4 shop or sumthin...are you POSITIVE that that driveshaft is the cause of the vibration?Later Buddy.
The vibration that I'm talking about HERE couldn't be an out of balance driveshaft because it's at a VERY low speed. Like I said, it happens when I accelerate from a stop; just a quick short shudder after I step on the gas, then it stops. I'm pretty sure it has to do with my driveline angle because the intensity of the shudder was GREATLY reduced when I shimmed down my center support bearing.
It still wouldn't hurt to have it checked. I ran into a similar problem with our ranger for a vibration on take-off. It would go away when It was in 2nd gear doing 20mph. The driveshaft was just a little off that I was able to drive out of it to stop the vibration. Just some food for thought.
No no, mine comes and goes LONG before 20mph. I'm talkin, it comes around 1-2 mph and stops around 3-4 mph, lol. Its just a real quick SHAKE then it stops, even before I start moving very much.
You could try putting a friction modifier in the transmission fluid and see if that eliminates it then. When I replaced the front pump seal in my E4OD I had a bad shudder when the torque converter engaged/disengaged. At work we had a product called BG Transmission Conditioner that I used. It took it a week or two of driving, but it completely eliminated the shudder and hasn't come back in over 5 months. Just a thought/cheap fix to try if that's the case.
Yes it is a big deal Scott. Think about how any times you stop your truck when you drive even just a few miles... Now imagine that every time you start going after each stop, the truck SHAKES real quick. It gets REAL irritating... Especially when it's been going on for OVER A YEAR!!!!!
And I replaced the u-joints several months back, that was one of my first suspicions/replacements.
