That is, if you can get the parts guy to act like he knows IH produced these motors. The guys at my local IH dealer who shall remain nameless, Volunteer International in Jackson, TN., are idiots.
I went in, gave him the part number on a card, he looked at it and said we don't carry that. I said, do you think you could take a second of your busy day (looking around, no one there but me) and check your invintory log?? He said, I know we don't.
At that moment a mechanic came and said , What is he looking for and before the parts guy could speak i looked at the mechanic and told him what i was looking for. He said, Yea, we got a whole box of 'em back here!
I just gave the parts guy a "your an AZZhole look".
Got the part and have never gone back.
I'll second that. When I called my International dealer to ask about injectors the lady that answerd the phone sounded like she thought I was crazy calling an International dealer looking for Ford parts. "No son I don't think we have anything like that here."
you will fnd that most counter people are just that, they dont know anything other then what the boss tells them. if they work at an international dealer then they assume thats all they will see, they are clueless on anything else. you will find that in alot of advance auto's and autozone's as well. i had a guy argue with me for along time over parts for my charger. i was trying to get an alternator from a later model (higher amperage) and he pitched a fit that i cant do that because the computer says they are different numbers. i told him i dont care to give me the dam part and he refused. i had to get the manager to come over and sell me the parts because the counter guy was an idiot. it happens all the time on my truck too, the best is to go into an advance or autozone and ask for parts for your 1998 ford f-350.....the smoke will start rolling out of their ears when there is no number in the computer. they become lost if the computer wont spit the answer out. then tell them you will have to go to the competetors because they dont have a problem looking it up.....oh god its so much fun!
Like said already. Parts on a part by part basis on where to get it.
There are three things you should know about dealing Ih on PSd parts.
1. NEVER tell them its a Ford. Always refer to it as a T444E. You will get the deer in the headlights stare followed by a laugh everytime
2. Always have a part number. HD parts are almost always looked up by part number not appliaction. If you don't have a part number see #3.
3. Always have your engine Serial number. When a part number is not availible the only way you will get IH to find the part is with an Engine serial number. Also one problem with this method is IH and Ford don't call parts by the same name.

couldnt agree more. some of the more experienced parts people know and for some reason in my experience will do just like the guy above did. so much for them wanting to sell parts.
When I called International the parts guy said "This is International, why would you call us for Ford parts?" Don't you know that International makes the diesel engine in this Ford truck? "No they don't....call Ford!"
Those are exact Quotes. It's just another example of hireing the handicapped, no disrespect meant towards the disabled.
the guys at my local ih are nice, and helpful. oddly enough. the ford dealership though...one guy there is an azz. he smarts off everytime. a guy i know that buys all his parts there, but lives 50 miles away and has them deliver told the a-hole one time he was gonna drive althe way up here just to punch him in his D mouth. but the ih guys here will even cross-reference for you, and trouble shoot for you over the phone. ones like that are rare though
Boy ,I must have good guys at my IH dealer. They have no problem looking up parts for me or even x -referencing ##S for me.THe one guy Jay even recognizes ##s and desriptions.Cudos to Hawkeye Int'l Davenport Ia. Even my Ford dealer treats me good looks up ##s and quotes $$ no problem...
