Thanks I called the Ford hotline. They were very helpful and called the dealer. They apparently didn't remember telling anyone they would not do the work without the letter. . However the sevice mgr did say they would do the inspection but didn't have parts to replace and that would take a second visit.
I have owned the truck for over 2 years but the interesting part is I won't get a letter because Ford didn't have me as the current owner.

Good, glad to hear Ford took care of the problem for you. Like I said you can scare the dealership a little and tell them its going to be their *** if anything happens to me or my family, their going to be held responsible.
At least then I will know it will be done right by "me".
-but then you pay for it, unless you have a shop put it in an provide a receipt that can be submitted to fomoco-but the you will still have the intial cash outlay until you get refunded.

ok--ok next time i'll read all the posts first before i try to contribute--
I have a 2000 E350 7.3 PSD that I ordered new from the factory. I have yet to receive a letter for it. I checked on the ford.com web site and both it and my 2000 Excursion were subject to the recall. They replaced the CPM sensor on both of them at no charge.
I had my sensor fail in July, which stranded me. Took the vehicle to Prestige Ford in Dallas. They charged me $125 for the $25 sensor and a total of $426 to install it. What a huge rip-off. I was mad then and I'm madder now.
Does anybody know when this recall was issued? I'm asking for my money back regardless. If they don't give it to me, I'll sue then in small claims court and they can send their $650/hour attorney down there to tell the court why they don't owe it.

Buyer beware: Prestige Ford Dallas.
When you receive the letter informing you about the recall it will tell you that you can get your money back if you have already replaced this part before the recall. If it was me I'd wait for the letter and call Ford and tell them that you have already replaced this part and I expect and demand a full refund of all the monies. Ford should be able to help you out with getting your money back.
First I have heard about this. I will have to check with the Ford Dealership about getting my 2002 checked and replaced.
I am not sure that Ford has our new address since we moved from Ohio to Oregon.
Thanks for the information!

Hey All, This came up at a good time, about 2 weeks ago i was accelerating from a dead stop, not stomping on it, and the engine bucked. It happened a couple times since, but then last night I was pulling into my hood and let off the gas around the corner and the X stalled, I put it nuetral and it started right up. I was thinking CPS, so this recall sure helps. Just got off the phone with my local F dealer and they dont need a letter. They run the vin, which I did and it is part of the recall, going monday. Anyone know if milage matters on recalls, just turned 139,000
