I talked to dealer mechanic and the recall is to inspect and replace the sensor with gold bracket! if yours has the silver bracket it will not be replaced. This is what I was told by the Mechanic and the service rep in garage!
I find that interesting because when you run the VIN on the ford website it clearly states to replace the CPS but doesn't mention brackets or colors. However my dealer won't replace it until I get the letter from Ford on the recall, then and only then will do the work. So my question is has anyone received the letter from Ford on the recall?
I haven't gotten a letter yet,but I am the third owner...Checked with the Ford dealer and his response was that he hadn't heard about it as yet..My Lincoln dealer where I get my work done said that it is a replace item, but can't do it w/o the letter...He is also gonna check and see if any of the other recalls have been done..

--the letter is out!,holy cow--no wonder you guys bash dealers!! if it is on oasis, the recall must be done. it is a safety recall, and must be completed as soon as you can make an appt., the parts have been available well before the recall came-out,we have done a ton-o-them already.what happens if yer dog eats the letter,or it blows out the window at a high rate of speed--they wont do it??--ya'll bring yer sleds to md and i'll take care of them for ya!!!
I learned about the CMP sensor recall from postings on this board. I looked up the VIN numbers of both of my 7.3's and both were on the list. I took them to the dealer and both received the new CMP sensor no questions asked and at no charge.
I had mine replaced last Saturday. Dealer stated they would have to scope it to determine which part it was. Mine was one that had to be replaced. Pretty quick and simple. No appt was required by my dealer.
My Cam Pos sensor went out prior to the recall and I bought one from Ford for $27 and installed in 15 minutes. It is almost not worth it to have them do the install if you have any down time on your vehicle.

Still no letter and dealer still won't change w/o letter. Now I am wondering if I should trust him to open the hood. Might be better off to drive the cps I have until it dies. At least then I will know it will be done right by "me".
If the dealerships are giving you all any problems call Ford or the NHTSA.

When I had my cruise control switch fixed I hadn't received a letter yet and they performed the recall right away. If it were me I'd tell them that if I were to get in a wreck because of the CPS it would be their asses, I would hold them responsible for putting my families life and mine in danger. I read that the letters would be mailed beginning Dec. 17, so the letters should arrive eventually.
