I recently took my 05 Excursion in for a recall. The dealer replaced a sensor and made an unusual adjustment.
Now when you kill the vehicle, a loud noise continues for 30 seconds. The dealer claimed it's a requirement from ford where fuel is purged into the injectors for prolonged life.
Has anyone experienced this too? I have an 05 super duty psd and no adjustment was mandated.
Thanks,
Very odd having the vehicle make loud noises long after the engine is killed.

YEP, it last 30 seconds and is shaking the oil out of the spool valves.
Is this for all '05 6.0L PSD's? I just had mine in the dealer 2 weeks ago for some maintenance and asked about recalls. They told me there were none, but my engine is not doing this after I shut it off. Interestingly, I was just with a friend this weekend who had this same recall work done on his 2006 F250 PSD and you can clearly hear it when he shuts it down, so I don't think I'm just missing the sound...
It's an ECM flash that helps with the cold starts I believe. If you don't live in a cold climate I don't think you'll see much difference. Actually I think I read somewhere they have issued a newer flash than that due to customers complaining about the noise.
I have a 2004 Exc, with the update that gives the 30 second buzz, it was done in early Feb. It did not help with the cold weather starting, if anything it made it worse. The engine is very rough after starting, almost like it is firing on only 4 of 8 cylinders.
The check engine light just came on and I am getting a code of P2285. This is somthing with low injector pressure. This just started last Monday, now its back to the dealer. I will have to get the news upgrade to get rid of the buzzing.
I just purchased an '03 Ex with the 6.0. It has 97k miles on it and I heard the same thing when shutting off the engine. I took into the local Ford dealer to have it looked at and they said it was ok and they could reprogram it not to make the sound. It did stop and they took care of some powertrain warantee items they found. Now, a week later, the engine light is on and I'm getting the same P2285 "INJ Control PSI Sensor Circuit Low". Patracer, what did you find out about this from your dealer? The local parts store says they would start by changing out the fuel filter. Thanks.--Brian
