DO IT! Its free. Its easy. It seemed to improve my throttle response and accleration. Even if it only helps a little, what do you have to lose? I think this is the best and really about the only "free mod" for a Fx50.

You might as well open up the air box while you have your intake apart. i cut mine on the side against the fender. it was only a small opening, about 1'' high and 2 inches long, because of the small breather filter. But it almost double's the box's ability to breathe, even if it is warm air.

i also took the " cold air " ducting off because to me it seemed pointless. I take it that you guys aren't allowed to remove the cats on your truck?

I have no cats on my truck...I'm pretty sure i'm not required to run any...
i'm not sure on taking the cold air ducting off because on high way speeds air won't be rammed into there...

the only problem is that the intake is tucked in behind the grille and the form of the grille directs air away from it. its too bad that we cant tie the intake into the little vents in the cowl, because of the high air pressure. i've toyed with the idea of having a functioning vent in the fender, like a commmercial truck.

harrisford: Cooler air is the key.

General rule of thumb: 10* = 1 HP or for every 10* up or down, you can expect 1 HP up or down in return. So that being said, whether there is a ram effect or not, the air box is pulling air from outside the engine compartment.

I did modify my duct so that it was wide open and not turned to the side, but it is still there. By the way, the Lightning guys are buying these type air box/ducts for there trucks to help get cooler air and improve HP.

Hope this helps, just my humble opinion.

I left the stock air box feed from behind the grill and added a second one. Drilled a 2" hole in the fwd in/bd corner and attached a 2" aircraft air vent tube. Routed it out to an area behind the bumper. Now both airbox intakes (stk and mine) can draw cool air as req'd.

So first off, 460kirk, u run two air boxes? and i was looking at my truck the other day and because of the way i have been thrashing it i will have to replace the bumper so i am going to go with a bumper off a diesel and route ducting from the bumper thru the fender into the bottom of the airbox. i just bought a K&N airfilter so im hoping it will jump up the power a bit.

One airbox, two inlets. The stock inlet is left intact and I added a second one as described. I also have the diesel front bumper.
