does anyone have or know where I could find a good picture of the part of the thermactor air system that is located between the engine and firewall of an 89 Bronco with a 351? I'm getting a code 44 and 33. I know there is some hose that comes off the diverter valve that snakes around back there and connects to something that is supposed to be attached to this pipe that leads down (mine is not connected, I believe it has rusted through, giving me these codes). I know this is a bad description, but I can't see back there, and I cannot find a good picture of what is back there. If anyone has a pic of one after they took their engine out, or anything (and not that Ford "this is what most systems have" silly drawing) I would be quite grateful.
Thanks again guys, and Kemicalburns, thanks for the advice on the throttle body from my last post.
I don't have a pic handy, but I should be taking off the upper intake in a few days to install new rocker arms. I can get a pic then.
I've had mine apart enough times that I should know the system pretty well. It's always in my way when I'm working on anything.
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for, but there's a check valve in between the heads. It's connected by a pipe to each head, and there's a rubber hose (that kinda looks like a question mark laying face down) feeding into the top of it.
that pic is perfect!! what's broken on my truck is the top metal piece is separated from the tee juncture that the three hoses connect to. So I'm not sure if I need one piece, or two pieces, and what is the name of the item(s) I am looking for? And, this is the question I'm afraid to ask, but how hard is this to remove while still on the truck?
Here is a diagram of the back side of the engine showing the check valves and the control or diverter valve. On mine the check valve had rusted. My dirverter valve was OK. I think you can reach the diverter valve without removing anything else.
thanks for the pics ahd the advice, guys!! turns out my issue was the check valve that leads to the converter was what had broken. basically came apart at the seam. And, with the pics to guide me, feeling around back there was tons easier, since I at least kinda new what I was feeling for.
Guys, I am trying to hook up my diverter system (the one that oyu were discussing here). Could one of you maybe take some pictures or trace back the vacuum lines from the diverter? I can't find out which solenoid operates which part of the diverter/bypass system, and I sort of want to reconnect it.
Do any of you still have the vacuum lines connected up to this guy?
