Well this truck just keeps nickle and diming me to death, I noticed the other day my coolent seemed a little low. I haven't drove it a few days went out today to clean tighten the boots and noticed the coolent was very far down, crawling under the truck I noticed it was dripping off the water pump. Just wondering how much a new one is. I believe I will get a 203 T-Stat since everything is ripped off of the there.
On a side note what size of deep well does it take to tighten up the boots?
Sorry I can't help but I have no idea what the answer is to either question. Luckily these are both things easily figured out. Maybe the bump will get someone that can answer this for you.
Well I will just break out that fance warrenty and hope it covers it, it covered my alternator so hopefully it will cover that. You do have to tear the entire front off the truck to get to it don't you?
JD, lets make sure it's the waterpump first. Is the leak coming from behind the pulley where the waterpump weep hole is or is it down lower on the inlet tube or lower hose? There's an O-ring on the lower pipe (inlet pipe) were it attaches to the waterpump housing; this is a common leak problem and very easily (cheaply) fixed. Check this before proceeding. If it's definately coming from behind the pulley (as mine was) the replacement of the waterpump is not very difficult and not "terribly" expensive. It doesn't require a large teardown and even for me (an inexperienced DIYer) it was neither difficult or time consuming. I paid $160 for a new waterpump at NAPA, $25 for a new stock T-stat (I didn't see the need for a *203), $50 for a new belt (didn't need one, but I was already there), about $20 for new hose clamps and other misc things. I did buy the special tool for removing the fan (got it from NAPA). The whole job took me about 4 hours. If you need to do it here is a link to the procedure I used: https://www.ford-trucks.com/lc/lc.ph...Fwaterpump.htm. I didn't follow the torque specs he had listed because they just seemed too high and I felt I'd either stretch and break a bolt or crack the waterpump housing so I just tightened them till I felt they were good. I've put on about 1800 miles since and no leaks so I guess it was okay. I did take it to the dealership and have them do a coolant flush because it wasn't that expensive and I liked having new coolant in with my new components. Don't forget to remove, inspect and clean your EBP sensor and tube while you're in there. I just did this a couple weeks ago so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks Mike, I will check that out tomorrow I just know it was fine a week ago and not it has sucked alot out of there and I know a water pump is a common thing replaced on the 7.3. I am very mechanicly limited both in skill and tools thats why I am a little skidish about doing it my self heh. My rep for you is maxed out or I'd give ya some more heh.
