2.9L coolant loss
I have a 1990 2.9L that keeps loosing coolant... There are no leaks that I can see. It's losing about 1/2 gallon per week. This has been going on for about a year. Is it possible to have a head gasket problem this long without it getting worse?

Had the same problem. Turned out the water pump shaft seal had a small leak that allowed the coolant to evaporate before it could drip. Upon closer inspection, noticed the coolant coming out of the pump weep hole. New pump fixed the problem. HTH

2.9L coolant loss
The 2.9 and 2.8 engine heads are prone to crack. I had this problem a year ago. Have the system pressure checked. Check for water in the oil. I found both my heads cracked.The antifreeze in the oil will also ruin your engine's bearings. I rebuilt the engine and installed the redesigned aftermarket heads by World Casting. they are thicker, 4 lbs heavier and makeup for the poorly designed Ford heads. They cost about $250.00 each.

Mine did the same thing......no sign of a leak
It was a cracked head.....
Fords are known for weak heads on these 2.9 L motors
Now that i got it fixed it now has a lifter noise that drives me up a wall...
no oil on the top end.....new oil pump but still tapps

The lifter knock and other rattles could be from the antifreeze that got in the oil & washed out the cam, main, & rod bearings. This will cause low oil pressure.This will cause the lifters to knock. Also the lifters could be worn. Did you check the bearings after pulling the pan & replacing the oil pump?
