I finally get my license at the end of January and my truck is pretty much good to go. Ive taken care of oil leaks, got new wheels and tires, no i want it to sound good the first day I cruise into the school parking lot.
As of now I have a glasspack with a turndown on it. It was a quick fix after my muffler fell off. Its sounds ok but there isnt much tone and its not loud at all.
The problem is the big crappy rust bucket cat.
At this time im not going to put on longtubes and get a new y pipe and all that great stuff. Trust me if i could afford it i would. So as you advise me on what do do try to put yourself if a poor sixteen year old's shoes.

My truck has duals off the manifolds into a big cat that is connected with a flange. I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-97...spagenameZWD1V
My plan is too replace the cat setup with that going into a high flow cat, into a muffler, exiting in front of the right tire.
My problem is i dont know what to do with this AIR tube coming out of the top of my converter. I honestly have no idea what its doing so im not sure if its important. I see some converters that have the AIR tube and some that dont. Even if i did get one with the tube i know its not going to line up right and i dont know where to get pipe that size and run it and all that crap.
I would take the stock cat off and go down the your local welder, or if you can weld or know some and do what I did. I made that flage with 2 2 1/2 pipes comming out of it. So I ran a DI/DO Flowmaster 40's on it. Here are some pics. It sounds so awsome. Ex-gf used to get mad when Id wake her mom up when I left late. Here is the link to the other thread that will show you what you can do. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...g-headers.html
Thats a sweet setup. i want to do something like that, but i really want to keep it legal and use a cat. the smell is nasty too. i park this thing in the garage when its cold so i want to keep it clean. Ive got access to a welder at school so i think im ready to go, i just need to know about that Air tube thing.
350xl, what did you do with that air tube crap? does your truck run fine. Does it throw a CEL?
I got lucky as a F350 the GVRW was so great that mine didnt have to have the air tubes, I do have some but they are long gone. I still have the EGR valve installed but it is capped off. As long as the computer opens and closes it, its all good. Because I did make the flange I put the stock cat back on for inspection. Just passed NJ inspection. 20 min later when I got home, cat came off. Truck runs like a champ. If you do have cat it wont be as loud as if you dont. Id try to make it so you have 2 setups, 1 for all the time, and 1 for inspection. Ill take a pic tomorrow of my getto inspection setup. Youll get a kick out of it. Needs some more work when I got time.

Reason: Cant spell.
I know on my old wrangler the air tube kit for when you changed the cat was a peice of heater hose and 2 clamps. So as long as you put the air tube line close 2 the cat just use a peice of heater hose. I have my mustang like that but with no cat. The x pipe has a tube comming out of it for the line. Ebay has cheap converters. Here are a few:
The air tube does nothing but pump fresh air into the cat...Mine was hanging till I pulled the smog crap off of it...won't do anything to your truck won't throw codes nothin.....let her hang.
ok good deal. I live in MO and as of now they are now smog tests in my area, so im not worried about being legal i just dont want my truck to act ignorant on me. So from what you guys have said, i dont need to worry about connecting the air pipe to the new cat, so im good to go. Ill let your guys know how it goes and if i have any more questions.
Thanks for the help.
Well for now Im pretty sure the cheapest most effective route for me will be to get that flange, then a cat like the one you posted that link to or something similar. After the cat a muffler (not sure which yet). then either a turndown or exit in front the right rear tire.
Im going to wait til after christmas before I order the parts so it will give me some time to decide what parts to go with. My main concer was the AIR pipe. Now that i know i dont need it things should go pretty smooth and give me more options.
