Tailgate up

According to Myth Busters, you actually get better gas mileage with the tailgate up believe it or not.

well I know on my truck I feal that I am getting better mileage with the tail gate up, I do alot of traveling in my truck as well, when down It seems I can feal the truck run differnt but not for the better, but alas this may all be differnt as my truck is lowered alot front and rear as well, I enjoy the mileage of my truck, so I leave it up.

Yep, plus you'll get all kinds of nice chips in the paint with it down.

it kinda depends on the truck.... my dad and i found this out becasue of his super crew and my super cab... the mythbusters used a super crew which follows our own results

when i drive my super cab down the high way if i look at my toneau cover i can see that it is dipped in about 1 ft infront of the tailgate... this is from the air comming off of the top of the truck and going over the lower pressure behind the rear glass..

my dads super crew that has the cab 1 ft closer to the bed does not have this depression due to the fact that the air buble is the same and the air will travel the same distance before coming down...which happens to behind the tailgate on the super crew..

I got beter milage with my truck when i put my tonue cover on due to its stoping air from hitting my tail gate... but my dads super crew is not affected one way or another...

This is all my personal results...and i completely agree with mythbusters with the vehicles they used......i just dont agree that its the same for ever truck...

thanks to all for the help, going to bed for a few hours
then out the door, with the tailgate up, may try it with tail
gate down on the way back.
