Weak oil pressure?

Had a 300-6 completely rebuilt last summer and it now has about 4,500 miles on it. During the first 3,000 miles or so, oil pressure has been 45-50psi. at start-up, 45-50 at highway speed, and around 25psi.+/- at hot idle. Since around December, I noticed hot idle has dropped to, what appears to be, 5-10psi, max. These readings are from a mechanical gauge that was hooked up to the previous 302 engine and has been removed several times. I was wondering (hoping actually)that a kink in the white plastic pressure tube could be causing the low(er) pressure reading. The motor runs great and makes no noises. After the first 1,000 miles or so, the sending unit fitting was leaking at the block. We tightened it and since then, no leaks. The oil gauge is a $20 Carquest. I'm using 5w30 oil and have done 4 changes since installing the motor. The rebuilder ground the original crank and used a stock oil pump. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks again.

Weak oil pressure?

Try using another gauge. A temporary screw in type, you can usually rent one from autozone or another big part store. Also 5w30 may not be the problem, but I would always try to use at least 10w30 or 10w40. For engines with 100,000 and up I use 20w50. Just my opinion.
