I just put a brand new 300ci EFI in my 87 F-150. I love the truck to death, it will pull anything I put behind and climb right out of any hole. The only problem is that there isn't enough ponies for me. Especially having the granny tranny and all. Any one and everyone please help me find performance parts and sugestions to beef up my beast. Web pages, catalogs, mags. ect, ect....
All you need is here! [link:www.cliffordperformance.com|Clifford]
Just keep in mind its not cheep to up the 300. BUT if you do its a unique way to get performance. They have a good 270 degree cam shaft that lights is up! I beefed my up and it ran plenty good untill the highway. BUT you need to also keep in mind that you are not going to get outragious HP #'s off that engine. You would be doing really good if you got 200 hp out of it. (keeping it close to street leagal) It just has such a long stroke. Its power is down low...as you already know. If you can put up with it, its a great engine. If you have any questions on what i did and currently working on...mail me @ Mudinford(No Email Addresses In Posts!)
The inline 6 isn't made for HP. It's nothing but a big brute of a gorilla. This engine loves to produce more torque than HP. It's a stroker so it won't when any races but damn will it how and tow anything you throw at it. I just installed 4.10s in my 94 6er and it surprised me at what it can do if molded correctly. Get the mods that you can and take care of this engine. If you do it will take care of you! As for mods look at Clifford Performance (www.cliffordperformance.com), Summit Racing, Jegs and Northern Auto Parts. You can get camshafts, ignition modules, gears, coils, headers, port & polish the head, K&N FIPK and many other goodies.
I've had a Clifford 270-EFI grind sitting in the original box, uninstalled, for 3-4 years now--I've been concerned about losing off-idle torque, and thinking that I'd overcammed.
Did you lose anything on the bottom end? Where does that 270 really begin to pull?
Eddie...yeah...i didn't really notice much of a loss in low end. It lit up about 2300....est cuz I don't have a tach. But it still had that low end punch...I still even have those 3.08's in the rear with 33's and cant imagine what 4.10's would have done. It wasn't super fast but it had a more noticeable, wider power band. But I really had no trouble in the mud at all or pulling people out. It didn't tow super heavy stuff all that great...but I think it was that tire to axle ratio being WAY off. But I would do it. Its just a little wilder than the RV so if you did loose some, I dont think it would be much at all. Plus you got those 4.10's. That helps lots...as you know. Catch ya later.
