hi everyone. i was wondering if anyone can help by providing me with info or a diagram on how the auto hubs are suppose to be installed. i just changed the lower and upper ball joint on my 94 explorer and also the u joint. i know the auto hub was not on right to begin with but im not sure myself on how it is suppose to be.my biggest concern i guess is i have three washers (one is splined like the spindle) and im not sure of their placement. any and all help would be great. thanks alot
to kinda enlighten the confusion, i know the cam assembly goes on the wheel hub and the three washers (thrustwasher set) goes on next but i dont have enough room to install the retaining ring back on the spindle with the three washers in place. i can only have the splined washer on in order to get the retaining ring on. this is for the drivers side of the explorer. any ideas and help would be great. thanks
well the haynes book i got has a pic and instructions but it doesnt totally match my vehicle.according to the book you have the retaining clip first, then the splined washer, then the cam assembly and after that you have two plastic washers which sit on the wheel bearing adjusting nut.
well i dont have two washers that are that big to sit on the nut. i have a plastic one and a thin steel one that is a bit bigger then the spindle (axle).
any other info would be good please. thanks
maybe i should mention i have a 1994 explorer sport (not sure if there is a difference)

Hey. A later post tells me you got it right, but the splined washer goes on last, just before you put the lock ring on the axleshaft. The other two (my 94 doesn't have them, btw) go on immediately after the bearing lock nut ... you put the auto hub cam on over them (according to the service manual). My guess would be that the metal washer goes on first (touching the lock nut surface) and the nylon washer goes on last (so that it butts up against the auto hub cam).
yeah that is what the manual i bought said also but... i didnt have the two big washers that went on the locking nut. instead i had two little washers the size of the splined one. i went to the junk yard and got the two larger thrust washers and the two normal thick splined washers (my splined washer was thin, i assume the other two washers were to make of the difference up of the thicker one). im looking into warn manuals just so i dont have to mess with it as much.
thanks for the replies
