So I found a deal on a truck. The guy want $1000 dollars and I think it's a great deal. But I just wanted to know what are some common problem among these trucks and how easy they are to work on. I am by know means a mechanic, but I have some basic knowledge of vehicles. This is my first truck so I'm Kinda pumped. Let me know what you think.

Reason: spelling
In my area thats a $3000 truck. here $1000 will buy a bad motor rust bucket (yesthere r exceptions. ) The body looks solid.
Looks like a nice ride . The 300 lasts long time. And it has MAF system to boot . For the price you could part it out and get $2000 in parts if the bed is as decent as looks. Goodluck
Similar, here in Connecticut a deal like this doesn't come around too often, It belongs to a friend of a friend so it good to have connections I guess. =)
Looks like a good truck they are relatively easy to work on especially with the 300 but that new of a truck a lof o things are all electronic computerized so its tricky unlike an 70s truck where everything is simple and mechanical etc looks solid and a good buy
I say ****** IT UP. If that thing runs well and doesn't have any major problems, buy it for sure. At $1000 it's a steal. The 300 is a work horse and with a 5 speed behind it you've got yourself a nice setup. And mass air flow is a huge bonus too.
Heck for $1000 I think I'D even buy it just for the hell of it
that's a h*ll of a buy. I don't think to much of the short bed but I carry alot of big stuff. Everything being computerized can be good or bad, the good side is it is OBD2.
Looks like a great truck and a great deal, i love these year trucks, i have a 97, almost wish i could have a 96 lol. And i can personally vouch for the toughness of the 300 6 cyl engine, my buddy had one a bronco and you couldn't break the thing if you tried, great engine, nice truck!

Rear spring hangers rusting out: Looks to be an relatively easy replacement but I haven't gotten around to doing mine.
Fuel tanks leaking due to rusting out: Pretty basic replacement
Front brake dust shields rusting out: Not worth doing in my opinion unless you are going to do brakes, bearings, etc. If you are going to get into these you might as well go the whole way and replace the front axle u-joints and CV joint. Maybe a summer weekend project.
Wandering steering: Not sure if this would be an issue on a '96. Maybe someone else can chime in here.
Other than that you are looking at basic stuff, brakes, tuneup, Tie rod ends, etc. When was the vehicle last inspected?
It was inspected about a month ago, failed do to check engine light. It was a problem with the catalytic converter. The friend that led me to the truck fixed th problem, engine light went off and it is going through emissions again this week before I pick it up.
Thief stop thief, you're getting a 4x4 for $1000. Dude you suck, hey check out my new gallery. I just added the truck I paid a $1000 for and it ain't no 4x4. It beats the 81 F100 I've also got, but the 81 did me 2.5years of problem free service. Nice truck ****** it up and post some more pics when you get her.
Don't worry Frank, whatever money i don't spend on the truck the insurance agents are going to steal from me. Just went to see how much rate would increase on my plan, ya they are going to double . It might be time for me to get rid of my Sable...
Yhea, in my neck of the woods, that truck would cost a fortune more. My 93 with 100k on the clock, 302/AOD and only minor underbody rust was 3400 by the time I taxed and tagged it, and it's 2wd.
If you live in a salt happy area (and obviously you get some snow) check the underside for rot, especially those rear spring shackles. If they use a lot of salt and you have to drive on it, as I do, get it hosed off regularly and you should be in good shape for another 120k or so.
