4x4 rumble?

today was the first time i really got to use the 4 wheel drive in my truck and i had a blast in the snow while everone else was stuck in ditches but anyway i noticed when the hubs are locked (wether the 4x4 is engaged or not) it seems to make a decently loud rumble noise. just wanted to make sure this was normal. thanks.

Not normal.
Check all the front U joints back to the transfer case.
Also check the driveshaft to see if it is bent if the U joints are all OK.

Most driveshafts have a weight welded to them somewhere to balance it.
Possible the weight came off for some reason.

Check to make sure the rear has oil in it. Especially if it's a TTB. When these rears burn up, they'll make a rumbling noise as you described.

it dosent always make the noise, just when the hubs are locked
so it probably wouldnt be the rear then would it?

I think rebuildman meant check the oil in the front differential when he said rear.

Look at all the parts that are turning when the hubs are locked in that do not turn when not locked in.

One of them is your problem.
