351m redline?

I was wondering what the redline for the stock 351m would be out of a 1979 F-250 4x4. I don't have a tach but I plan to install one. I would like to know the redline so I can pick out the best performance parts and choose the right tach.

Thanks,
TheBlueMule

They're not meant to go too high; I believe 5000 to 5500 is what I've been told in general.

That sounds about right, although I've had my 400 to 6k by accident. Not sure how long or often that it would handle that.

Your valve springs would limit your rpm by floating at some point; Then the cam would run out of breath, and might do that before the valve float. These are stock parts, and were never made for high rpm use, since the cars and trucks they were put in weren't high performance models. (but what really was in '75-'80?? lol)
Make changes to those two things and you will see a difference. All other high-po parts apply to this engine, however. Find some specs if you want to set your tach's shift light at the point of max hp.
